|

I'm sure this has to have been asked before, but I must not know the right key words, because I've been searching for hours with no luck.
I'm bootstrapping, I do the #emerge sync
everything seems fine for awhile, but then I get this error:
rsync: error writing 4092 unbuffered bytes - exiting: Connection timed out
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(463)
>>>Updating Portage cache...
cdimage/# rsync error: received SIGUSR1 or SIGINT (code 20) at main.c(784)
This error frequently happens during the writing of this file:
media-libs/svgalib/files/digest-svgalib-1.4.3-r2
though is has occurred at other random places.
I have opened my PIX wide open for all traffic to this machine, but naturally, that didn't help. I'm monitoring my bandwidth with mrtg and although I'm on a slow frame relay link, I'm not peaking out the pipe either. I've been trying this for almost three days now, and I'm about to give up. What can I do? Is there an argument or option I can add to the emerge command? Something? Anything?
Thanks |

Not sure on the rsync problem, but as a workaround, you can download the latest snapshot and untar that manually. That will at least let you get the rest of your system built.
Here's the link from yesterday's snapshot (Nov. 7, 2002)
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/snapshots/portage-20021107.tar.bz2
(note to anyone who runs across this post in the archives -- ibiblio only stores the last 3 days worth of snapshots, so if you get a 404 file not found error, look here instead.)
