hi!
today I've updated my audigy-soundcard driver.. well I emerged the new emu10k1 ebuild (I've been using emu10k1-audigy before... never had any problems with this driver) and all I get, when i modprobe the module, are lots of unresolved symbol errors...

Code:

/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbol sound_unload_mididev
/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbol midi_synth_hw_control
/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbol midi_synth_panning
/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbol sound_alloc_mididev

/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbol midi_synth_kill_note
/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbol sequencer_init

/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbol midi_synth_reset
/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbol midi_synth_aftertouch

/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbol midi_synth_open
/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbol midi_synth_setup_voice
/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbol midi_synth_load_patch
/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o: insmod emu10k1 failed

I've tried pretty everything: i recompiled the kernel (vanilla-sources), compiled the old emu10k1-audigy sources (that one still works) and tried to compile the new emu10k1-sources by hand, which leaded to the same unresolved symbol errors...

any help would be appreciated... :)

I've also had troubles like this, try unmerging all your kernel sources, cleaning out /lib/modules, uninstalling stuff like nvidia-kernel, lm_sensors, and so on.

Then you emerge your chosen kernel, configure, and reboot with it. After that compile the stuff you need, and reboot / load the modules by hand.

Worked every time I've had these troubles. Perhaps you could try compile the modules into the kernel instead?

Unmerge alsa. Then you have to recompile your kernel with sound installed as a module and no other sound modules installed. Then move the bzImage to the /boot dir. Then when you boot up again follow the directions from there in the gentoo alsa setup guide. http://www.gentoo.org/doc/alsa-guide.html
