Same problem. I'm not sure I didn't do something daft though. My old conifg
gave me undefined symbolswhen I compiled, so I hand configured it
and may have forgotten something.

Bootsplash just give me a black screen as well, same comments apply

well, staircase proved to be a bad idea in last love, didnt it? :P
maybe in the future I'd make sperate patches for both nicksech/staircase, but so far staircase doesnt like the love!
@evermind i didnt have that, but when i fsck my / it seg faults (which is for some reason beyond me is normal) and i found few corruptions on another reiser4 partition which got fixed with --build-fs.
redeeman says there's a bug that will make it freeze the computer under heavy load.

I really had no problem with staircase and love until now ... :)
I have to say that i've seen a great performance gain in responsiveness of my laptop , that is why i was asking about it :)
The incredible thing is that Staircase is working fine for me ONLY with love-1, any other kernel patch i tried with staircase had very very big problems ... but, ok, i'll wait for a much stable release ...
Thx

Try running some java apps with staircase and see if it works.

What can i say ... you're right man :)

My system freezed and i had to reboot and fsck ... but i have to say that everithing works fine for me but java ... so maybe the last version of staircase 6.2 released today could be better.

for now i'm switching back to Nick :)

i know people have gotten hal and d-bus working. but each time i try and emerge it, i get this error.
Code:

gcc: ./dbus_bindings.c: No such file or directory
gcc: no input files
make[3]: *** [dbus_bindings.lo] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/dbus-cvs-20040522/work/dbus-cvs/python'

I have tried the ebuilds from bmg, and an ebuild that redeeman put together. Each of them returns the same error.

One more thing that I noticed, this pops up at the beginning of the emerge.

Code:

You should add the contents of `/usr/share/aclocal/libtool.m4' to `aclocal.m4'.
aclocal-1.7

So i just did:
Code:

cp /usr/share/aclocal/libtool.m4 /usr/share/aclocal/aclocal.m4

but I am not sure if this is what it meant for me to do. Can anyone clarify?

works just fine.
@Evil Dark Archon/squeegy
the metas/ feature is the new thing in reiser4 that lets you have custom settings for each file/directory (just cd /bin/ls/metas/ and you will understand), so far noone really uses it + it breaks glibc compile and apache's permissions (you'd have to chmod 777 all the files you want to show in apache, which is BAD).
you can disable it if you append nopseudo to mount options but that doesnt work on /root so i simply reversed that, it wont show metas/ unless you give it the nopseudo option.
i didn't disable it completely, i just disabled it by default.

Disable the python use flag , that should fix it. Python bindings are (still) broken...
About your m4 stuff: what they actually say is 'put it in aclocal.m4 in the root of the sources', but you dont need to do that (a symlink is created automatically), never mind that error.

We might want to hold off for right now, that patch appears to be causing a quite an argument on implementation at kernel.org, so far Linus likes it so it should make it into the main kernel shortly.

So its not that in my case. Not the 4K stacks either. Still investigating though.

I tried merging the newer nvidia kernels in portage and they cause the same problems. -r3 doesn't even compile. It gives me this:

Code:
metalhead@maind1 nvidia-kernel $ sudo emerge nvidia-kernel-1.0.5336-r3.ebuild
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.5336-r3 to /

>>> Unpacking source...

Verifying archive integrity... OK

 * Cannot find $EPATCH_SOURCE!  Value for $EPATCH_SOURCE is:
 *
 *   /usr/local/portage/media-video/nvidia-kernel/files/1.0.5336/NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-5336-basic-sysfs-support.patch

!!! ERROR: media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.5336-r3 failed.

note this is done in /usr/portage/media-video/nvidia-kernel/ and not /usr/local/portage. Also for the sake of finding a solution I am using xorg and not xfree86.

win4lin poll:

Please could you let me know if you actually use win4lin in love-sources.

I really would appreciate a reply from any who do use it and if they do, whether they have any problems or not.

I don't want to hijack the thread so if you want to email me instead of posting here please do (see sig).

Many thanks.

[/edit]

Many thanks for an email from Sung-won. If anyone is like me (i.e. a little bit mutton-headed), ensure that the
Code:
Use register arguments (EXPERIMENTAL) (REGPARM)

is not checked. I'm sure it never used to be on by default and so never checked it (doh!). Now it works perfectly.

If you are having problems with it in this love - try that. thanks Sung-won :D

Really strange, what could be the cause of this? Kernel 2.6.6-mm2 worked fine.

Love2 is in /usr/src/linux-2.6.7-rc2-love2
While in /usr/src i type patch -p1 thepatchname but nothing happens?
I tried bzip2 -d patch but still the same.
What commands should i use?

Thanks in advance, Alari.
