Booting from LiveCD 1.4 and unpacking tarball stage 3 i686
which I previously put on a windows partition.

Everything goes 100% until step 14.

I emerge the vanilla-sources OK.

When I do a "make menuconfig" things go OK at first with
lots of lines of output. The last few lines before system freeze are:
---------------------------
Using defaults found in arch/i386/defconfig
Preparing scripts : functions, pasrsing ........ done
-----------------------------
and that's it.

I also tried make mrproper and make clean before the
make menuconfig but doesn't help.

Anyone have any idea.

apparently I used the wrong tarball.

I am using Celeron CPU - now I downloaded i686-Pentium2 and
now I have got to the menuconfig stage at least.

Thanks for reply.
