I have installed everything "by the book", no extra security that I know of.
How about firewall software? Is that already installed?
Are there any "interesting" holes I should close? |

A default Gentoo installation has no network daemons running, so you should be very secure. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

I just had xnmap running against my laptop (it's a workstation with KDE running). The only thing that was discovered (i.e. open port with listener) was the X-server. I would say that's pretty secure |

For X server you can modify /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers and add -nolisten tcp. This will affect when X is started with {x,k,g}dm.
If you use startx, you can modify /usr/X11R6/bin/startx and add -nolisten tcp to serverargs.
As for firewalls and additional security measures, take a look at Gentoo Linux Security Guide. _________________ There's someone in my head but it's not me - Pink Floyd |
