Ok, here's an odd one:
I had Windows XP and Mandrake 9.0 installed, and decided to use Gentoo instead of Mandrake. Win XP was on hda, and linux on hdb. Mandrake, of course, uses lilo, and gentoo uses grub. (usually)
I repartitioned my hdb for gentoo, and installed it. Now, however, when I boot up, i get the Mandrake lilo screen! If I choose the Linux option, it boots gentoo, and if I choose the NT option, it goes to my Grub loader! XP option (hd0,0) doesn't work at all, and the gentoo option boots linux.
Whats up with that, and how do I fix my mbrs??????
thank you!! |

use the xp cd to re-write the mbr to boot only windows...then use the gentoo cd to write the mbr back to grub...use the chainloader +1 option to boot windows...there is an example of this in the install text....i dont use xp but i dual boot with win2k and have done what i am tellling you with 2k and gentoo...so i would assume that it would work the same with xp and gentoo. |

Sweet it worked !!! Well, at least I don't get the mandrake screen anymore. Win XP still won't load, but I think I just need to change where grub points to it.
Thanks!!! |
