I'm glad that linux and gentoo are all about choices
the beast kernel source that I want at the moment is not available, gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.6
definitely will stick to that one when it is patched. |

Hi giuseppe,
Code: |
I didn't understand many things.
I've looked for the love-source documentation and I've found little and nothing
about official documetation.
I'd like to understand:
1) What's official about the love-source?
2) What or Who are "OneofOne" and "steel300"?
3) Who guarantees these patches? Gentoo?
4) I've installed linux-2.6.7-rc1-love1, using http://oneofone.limitlessfx.com/love-sources/ and the guide in
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=141720&highlight=lovesource&sid=23b32b8ea6fbe7a22ddd2b3e38c3b957.
The mm-patches are applied automatically; but if I want to build by hand my love-kernel, have I to patch, always,
the vanilla kernel with mm-patches + love-patches? Is there a guide or howto?
5) I found http://www.public.iastate.edu/~jpcox/2.6.6-love5.bz2, but:
where is its ebuild? Why isn't the 2.6.6-love5 in http://oneofone.limitlessfx.com/love-sources/ ?
|
Mysteriously, those are the questions that I've been trying to find out too.
If this is really a great kernel, do you consider having it on the gentoo official kernel list?
WHO are the maintainers of Love-Sources
The only thing that I've found is here www.public.iastate.edu/~jpcox/
Are these the kids that go to Iowa State
My lil cousin goes there |

1.) Love-Sources are a patchset based on mm-sources from Andrew Morton the offical kerneltree maintainer of 2.6
2.)OneOfOne is who..he maintains the love-sources with steel3000
3.) no gurantee if you want something post it in the appropriate thread named with love-sources-2.6.x steel or OneOfOne will say whats in and you can ask to put a patch in
4.)How To
5.) Because steel has a place where he store the love-sources + ebuilds and OneOfOne has its own place..atm steel del all ebuild and so..if you want the ebuild send me a mail..in the post and threads are the right location where the kernel is..which mentioned..The are decentral..hope this answers will help you.. _________________ [:: Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 ]::[ Mainboard: ASUS P5B Deluxe ]::[ GPU: nVidia 7900GTO ::]

1. Nothing.
2. Gentoo users, just like you.
3. Nobody. Use at your own risk
4. If you install love-sources using the ebuilds provided, it will apply all the patches for you. If you want to build it by hand, you have to apply the various patches yourself.
5. steel300 is usually the person who puts the love-sources patches together, but if he can't do it for some reason, OneOfOne does it instead. So steel300's site (www.public.iastate.edu/~jpcox) has the patchsets he did, and OneOfOne's site has the patchsets that he did. Just look for the latest love-sources thread in the forums to find out which is the current version and where to get it: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=179043 _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

.. ok.
another question: what is the purpose of Love-Source that it serves?
for example, game source for game, hardened source for server, gentoo source for normal geek.
love-sources for love? |

It's basically a very up to date patchset that contains a lot of useful and interesting patches. Reiser4, bootsplash, new schedulers, hardware fixes, drivers, and various other things. It changes from release to release. The thread I posted a link to has the list of patches in the current version in the first post. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

Hello,
I'm very gratefull to for your clear answers, but I'd like to understand another question.
The borg drone OneofOne supplied me with love-sources-2.6.7_rc1-r1.notes, but when I looked for
2.6.6-love5 in the steel300's site (www.public.iastate.edu/~jpcox), there wasn't the notes file
(I remember so, I hope I'm not mistaken).
Why? Had I to patch the 2.6.6 kernel with the only 2.6.6-love5.bz2?
Thank you for your attention.
