Sorry for the offtopic :oops:

Well since you already use gnome why not use gnome-volume-manager instead of those ugly hacks like supermount and submount?
You can use bmg's {dbus, hal, gnome-volume-manager}-cvs ebuilds.

Ok i have installed this with reiser4 fs on my root and get the following error anybody know what this means?????

Code:

/linuxrc has to be run as the init process as the one
with a PID of 1. Try adding init=/linuxrc to the
Kernel command line or running 'exec/linuxrc'.
UDF-fs: No partition found (1)
XFS: Bad magic number
XFS: SB validation failed
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on hda4

i have defined my root partition as "reiser4 noatime 0 0" in /etc/fstab
and in my grub.conf "init=/linuxrc"

No ideas???

Thanks

Adrian.

Just tried this version out
first there was a mention that
"bootsplash doesn't work until the bootsplash init script starts "
I've found on mine this does appear to work, I think you just need to make sure the images are attached to the back of the initrd file

One problem I have spotted unless everyone is already aware of this
upon adding my USB 512Mb Drive stick, this works okay

But upon removing it

Sweet. Thanks. I re-downloaded and installed the kernel, re-digested, yada-yada... Now when I build the ati drivers I get:

/usr/sbin/ebuild.sh: line 74: modules: command not found

I'll play with it some...

Well I'm stumped for now. The driver compiles just fine but I can't get it to load for the life of me...

After digest, and emerge, I get this:

Code:
>>> emerge (1 of 1) sys-kernel/love-sources-2.6.7_rc1-r1 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) patch-2.6.7-rc1.bz2
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) linux-2.6.6.tar.bz2

 * Please attach /var/tmp/portage/love-sources-2.6.7_rc1-r1/temp/patch-2.6.7-rc1.err to any bug you may post.

!!! ERROR: sys-kernel/love-sources-2.6.7_rc1-r1 failed.

and patch.err has a *lot* of (lol, doing as i'm told):

submount doesnt mount medias. I build it as module and module subfs is loaded. dmesg gives "subfs: submountd mount failure." i have set fstab lines

Code:
 /dev/cdroms/cdrom1      /mnt/dvd        subfs           fs=cdfss,ro,user,umask=0 0 0

also floppy doesnt work
Code:
 /dev/fd0                /mnt/floppy     subfs           fs=floppyfss,rw,user,umask=0 0 0

same problem if set fs=auto.

Sorry for the long post!

this is the most voodoo error out there, usually deleting /usr/portage/distfiles/{patch-2.6.7-rc1.bz2,2.6.7-rc1-mm1.bz2,2.6.7-rc1-love1.bz2} then redownloading fixes it.
@esc* most likely when you emerged submount it overwrote the module.
try to reemerge submount.
peace

That might be because you have CONFIG_REGPARM enabled. Love reverses the patch that makes this the permanent kernel default so go in to "Processor Type and Features" and check to see if the "Use Register Arguments" option is diabled.

Try my patch from here.

My kernel freezes when it gets to:
Code:
ACPI: IRQ9 SCI

That's not all that's on the line, just can't remember the rest...

make[2]: *** No rule to make target `drivers/net/ppp_mppe_compress.s', needed by `drivers/net/ppp_mppe_compress.o'. Stop.
make[1]: *** [drivers/net] Error 2
make: *** [drivers] Error 2

I also get that error people reported. Any solution yet?

I don't know why it is activated and why there is no Kconfig entry, but you can solve the compilation/linking issue when you comment out the

CONFIG_SCHEDSTATS=y

line in your .config file.

I haven't tested the kernel yet, tough.

What sources should I be patching, here? I tried downloading kernel.org's 2.6.7-r1 vanilla sources, patched it with mm1, and then followed up with love1, but I'm getting errors. Is love1 designed to be used on emerged sources, or...
