Hi all,

As you may have seem with my resurrection of an old post...trying to tackle my problem with an install on a Ultra2 3D creator. I've tried just about every combination of things to get my install emerge sync to run without locking up.

Some have suggested it may be a bad scsi controller. I have not docs with this box. Can someone give me a name/part number I might need to look for? Is this difficult to change out?

Any experiences greatly appreciated!!

:-)

Hello Cayenne,

I'm sorry to tell you that but the scsi-controller on a ultra2 is onboard so you cannot simply replace it. Unfortunately this machine doesn't have a pci bus so you have to use a sbus card. As far as I know there are no sbus cards with internal scsi connector (except old 8 bit controllers), all of them only have external scsi connectors. For use with external hdds you could use eg 501-2739 (Single-Ended Fast/Wide SCSI/FastEthernet (SunSwift)) which is working for me in a ultra1
Maybe you could purchase a complete ultra2-mainboard (which is probably quite cheap in the U.S. ...).

Regards,
Achim

Thanks for the reply!!
Ok...they don't look too bad pricewise on eBay. I'm curious...is there a difference on the main board between an Ultra2 Creator, and an Ultra2 3D Creator...or is this just a video card difference?

Thanks,

cayenne
