Ok, gonna play stupid again....
I'm doing a stage 3 install with the 2004.1 Universal CD and NO NETWORKS connection.
I've reached chapter 9. Configuring the Bootloader.
And of course the first thing the chapter says is emerge --usepkg silo and to my surprise the first thing it tries to do is download silo from the internet.
Quick search of the CD, and I can not find the silo tarball.
Now back in chapter 2, when discussing the type of stages and their pros and cons, it says "stage 3 is also required if you want to install Gentoo using prebuilt packages or without a network connection."
Based on the fact that silo appears to be missing from the CD, can someone tell me how I can install Gentoo without a network connection? |

Hello. I don't have a 2004.1 CD, but on mine it's here:
root-sparc64/sbin/silo

I've just encountered this same problem.
When I attempted to do a emerge --usepkg silo it can't find the package and tries to connect to the internet to get one. unfortunately, I do not have a network connection.
I have searched through the forums and the handbook and not been able to find a solution to this issue. If someone could please either direct me to the correct documentation, or a solution, that would be most helpful. |

This is a bug present on the earlier LiveCD media.
It's only been reported for 2004.3, so it's been fixed for 2005.0 which was just released.
Sorry for the fuss. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias
