ok i finally got my sound to work in kde using alsa. Every thing works in kde but it doesn't work in UT or UT2k3. I am a newbie too linux so it my be something simple. I'm using 97AC codec with my on board sound via8233.
also how do i install .umod's b/c i need that to work to get the bonus packs installedjavascript:emoticon(%27%3Aevil%3A%27)
one more thing i want to get the latest openGL for UT but i get an error when i try to download it. IT says
"Could not create view for application/x-zip-compressed

Don't know if this will help, but I noticed that UT/Quake3 (and perhaps others), come with their own (out-of-date, v1.2) precompiled libsdl. I make a point of renaming that file, then creating a symlink with the same name that points to your emerged libsdl in /usr/lib. I strongly suspect that will work, provided you had the "alsa" flag set when you emerged libsdl. You'll probably get better 3D too and everything will be faster thanks to your nice optimisations |
