|
|
I think i'm being the victim of too many new computer parts
I upgraded from an ABIT BH6 and a celeron to a SY-KT400 and an AthlonXP 1800+, this new mobo has 6 usb2 ports, only 2 are connected on the back pane of the mobo.
I also have a Wacom Intuos USB tablet that used to work on X for the celeron with gentoo-sources-2.4.19-r7.
I upgraded my kernel from gento-sources-2.4.19.r7 to gento-sources-2.4.19-r9.
Then after too many hardware/software upgrades i tryied to use the gimp with the tablet and nothing. No response at all. Cursor doesnt move.
I have tryied reading these forums, google and how-tos and the irc channel at openprojects and nothing.
Even more baffling is that:
* i can actually cat /dev/input/event0 and it spits some binary gibberish.
* /proc/bus/usb is there with devices and all
* dmesg reports that the wacom driver loaded fine.
* i emerged gpm in the hope i could isolate the problem either to the kernel or X, i run gpm -twacom -m /dev/input/event and BOOM! the compuer cycles scrolling a message about an illegal seek. (gpm is current).
* i didn't change my XF86Config, even tho i tryied upgrading from 4.2.0 to 4.2.1, with the same config file, and hand tailoring a new one, nothing. (yes i'm Loading wacom, and declaring InputDevices and adding them to the ServerLayout as AlwaysCore and using Option USB On).
* i root-tailed the /var/log/XFree log and i move the stylus, and there it reports events being read by the stylus/eraser/mouse
* i have tryied gento-sources-2.4.19-r9 to no avail with combinations of EHCI, UHCI, OHCI and nothing!!!
* oh! i'm forgetting this is a gentoo 1.2 gcc 2.95.3 box
I'm running out of ideas now... so if you read this message and have one that doesn't involve throwing my tablet throught the window, please comment.
If i ommited a detail that might be useful please tell me. |

sux to answer my own thread
i changed to ac-sources-2.4.20_pre102 and now i can use the tablet, i pretty much configured the kernel based on my previous gentoo-sources-2.4.19-r9 config, with the added config lines for Input core mouse and a resolution matching my X resolution (1280x1024) and only activating USCI (the VIA one)
as a note, i switched back to the gentoo-sources and made the exact same changes, but it didnt work
guess i'll have to wait till gento-sources-whatever-r10
