Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

I can boot from the latest CD image and run pci-setup, but gives this error trying to load the 3com ethernet card:

* Searching for PCI devices...
* 3Com Corporation 3c905 100BaseTX [Boomerang]; loading 3c59x...
Note: /etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.4.19-xfs-r1/modules.dep [ !! ]
* Modules loaded:
Module Size Used by Not tainted
loop 9304 0 (autoclean)
lvm-mod 56896 0

But the script hides the errors, so I didn't realize that it was having a problem and went on to run net-setup and was able to reach to access the internet. I then loaded the stage3 tarball and built the kernel and rebooted, and the system seems to be running fine, but there is no eth0.

Can someone point me to what I have to do to get my network card functioning again? I'm not sure if starting all over and going through all the stages would work since the boot CD had a problem loading the module to begin with.

When you compiled your kernel, did you put the 3c59x driver into the kernel, or build it as a module? Try compiling it directly in:
Quote:
<*> 3c590/3c900 series (592/595/597) "Vortex/Boomerang" support (NEW)

I don't remember seeing that option, but I'll look again.

What was it? What did you do to get this to work?

I'm having the same problem, with my 3c905 card.

I had to recompile the kernel with this selected from the kernel compile menu:
<*> 3c590/3c900 series (592/595/597) "Vortex/Boomerang" support (NEW)

This tells the kernel to load it as a module

Turns out that my problem (which affected Mandrake too) was that I had to disable APIC support in the BIOS - and then the kernel reenabled it when it booted...

You do it when you recompile your kernel, its on of the options after you type
Code:
make menuconfig

Good luck,

Bob
