I'm trying to develop an SDL application for class, and I'm finding that SDL on my iBook is painfully slow. The same code is yielding 8.56 fps on my iBook and 34.56 fps on my 550 mHz Pentium III (both running Gentoo :D). I would have blown this off as it just being slow because it's a laptop, but it's not too complex, and the same code ran with good framerates on YellowDog 2.3.

I've used Xeasyconf to get my X config file, and have added the "UseFBDev" option in the file. The kernel is a pretty stock 2.4.19-r6, without agpgart support and radeon compiled in. Give me 15 minutes, and I'll try that as well.

Any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong?

AGP support, radeon and DRI might be a good start :)

My bad.

When I said I did not have the modules "compiled in", I meant to say "compiled in statically". I was trying them as modules, and I then tried compiling them straight in to the kernel. No dice either way. I've also tried this with the latest benh kernel, and that has no effect either.
