|
|
Hi all,
I have Gentoo as internet sharing server and several compu's connected to it (win2K and winXP). Samba is working and doing great. But sometimes it goes wrong. Let me tell you how I get this.
1. I do a "df -h" and see that I have e.g. 900 MB free.
2. I connect to a shared dir with "smbmount //X/d /mnt/Xd" where //X is the winXP computer.
3. I move a large file (600 MB) from the Gentoo box to the windows machine with the standard "mv aa.ps /mnt/Xd".
4. After it has moved the file, I see the file on my windows machine and the file is complete. The file can't be seen anymore on the Gentoo box with "ls".
5. I do a "df -h" again. Guess what... still only 900 MB free and NOT 1500 MB!
I have recreated this problem several times already. Sometimes I get the free space again after several minutes (or even hours!), but sometimes I don't.
The only thing that works is a complete reboot. Mostly I HAVE to do this when I see that I only have like 80 KB free on my HD...
I hope someone knows how to solve this somehow!
Since I am quite the Newbie on Linux, I don't know the real configuration of the Gentoo. As far as I know I have the XFS filesystem. If anyone wants to know more information about the system, please give the commandline commands to get this information... sorry!
Greets,

Perhaps if you try "sync" after filecopy, it will commit the changes. I've had some strange cases of floppies, where it don't start moving files at once, and pauses copy if there is heavy activity. |

I will try it out tonight, though I must say that when I move the file(s) it does start moving immediately and there are no (real) other actiivities running...
