Has anybody got 2.6.6-rc1 to build on sparc yet? - I get
Code: | ....
CHK include/linux/compile.h
CC arch/sparc64/kernel/binfmt_elf32.o
In file included from arch/sparc64/kernel/binfmt_elf32.c:154:
fs/binfmt_elf.c: In function `load_elf_interp':
fs/binfmt_elf.c:369: warning: comparison is always false due to limited range of data type
In file included from arch/sparc64/kernel/binfmt_elf32.c:154:
fs/binfmt_elf.c: In function `load_elf_binary':
fs/binfmt_elf.c:780: warning: comparison is always false due to limited range of data type
make[1]: *** [arch/sparc64/kernel/binfmt_elf32.o] Error 1
make: *** [arch/sparc64/kernel] Error 2

when I try.
Any suggestions? - I'm using a .config from my working 2.6.4 with a make oldconfig applied to it.
I notice that LWN lists one of the changes in 2.6.6 as
Quote: | Changes to the ext2 and ext3 filesystems which provide significant speedups for the fsync() and fdatasync() calls. Various other performance improvements have been added to those filesystems as well. |
So there have apparently been some significant changes in that area |

I had the same problem with 2.6.6-rc1 and 2.6.5.
I resolved it by doing make clean in /usr/src/linux-2.6.5, then make menuconfig, and make && make image modules_install.
I also used the 2.6.4 .config file at ciarnm's site. I do not have the link right off hand, but it can be found if you search "sparc 2.6 kernel" in the forums. He has several configs for different systems that should all work.
I do not really know what changed, but it is no longer giving me that error.

The build error you are seeing is due to a bug in the kernel. It is fixed in 2.6.6-rc2. |

You're best sticking with 2.6.5 for now on Sparc... 2.6.6* has a few unresolved issues. |

FWIW
I have been runnin 2.6.5 on an Ultra5 now for a few weeks without problem.
I had problems with all of the other (v2.6) kernels that I tried. Excluding the lack of some of the features I liked with the 2.4 kernels, it has been a relatively easy experience.
This is my first Sparc/Linux install. Finally, I can put some of these old sun boxes I have to good use.

I managed to get this kernel to boot but I'm having problems getting the keyboard and mouse to work. Any ideas? I'm on an Ultra10 with a type6 keyboard. |
