|

Hi y'all,
I recently started to install Gentoo on a dusty old SUN Ultra1 Creator. All goes well, except for compiling my own kernel.
There are no problems during "emerge vanilla-sources", "make config" and "make dep && make ...". But when i try to boot the new kernel i get:
Loaded kernel version 2.4.26.
Illegal instruction.
(SYSTEM STOPS HERE)
I've used different configs and settings. I also tried configs form http://dev.gentoo.org/~ciaranm/configs/kernel/ , but to no affail.
Right now i'm using the kernel (2.4.24) found on the live boot-cd, which runs perfectly.
Could somebody help me please ???
Greetings Jeroen.

By the looks of this thread, https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=159221 , it seems like SILO 1.4.4 is the problem.
I will try some earlier versions of SILO monday and report the results. Has somebody else come up with this problem and fixed it? |

The problem was indeed SILO. I emerge version 1.3.1-r1 and all the problems were history. Maybe the gentoo dev-team could set version 1.4.4 as masked... |
