@superman

Good god, what did you do? That looks like a bad driver in mm. I know I didn't touch that one. Could you try using the latest mm and see if the problem still occurs?

I'm not really a friend of bios updates... Could you post a link to the patches so I can apply them automatically in the future? :)

Good job Steel, love your style!

They are still needed, even with latest BIOSes, as my machine can attest. They're very handy patches to have -- if you can run your machine 10 degrees cooler, why wouldn't you?

I'm a revent love-convert and have had to manually patch all previous kernels. Would be great if love included them by default!

Keep up the good work.

sry, but the bios-update doesn't take care of this issue, at least not on my box. I can tell you by the hardlocks when you took out the patches ;-)
ATM, i'm running a patched dev-kernel with nvidia-apic and reiser4, and 'cause i changed my drives to reiser4, i'm not able to run love-sources :-(
But later, when you include reiser4, i'd LOVE to see those nvidia-patches included ;-)

I already said it a few time and I say it again: Those patches are not the right ones. Take a llok into the german forum under the topic "kernel ohne apic". There I posted some more intelligent patches.

Try this patch: http://lkml.org/lkml/diff/2004/4/19/41/1

I had the same error as nepenthe. That patch did the trick. Thanks! :)

Is there any good reason why you wouldn't use LUFS for that? Maybe it's a little faster, but for a network connected filesystem (especially over the internet.. even with broadband) I don't see the advantage over a LUFS solution.

All working nicely here - ati binary drivers compiled and working well although error filling dmesg:
Code:

led
[fglrx:firegl_agp_lock_pages] *ERROR* agp_allocate_memory_phys_list failed
[fglrx:firegl_agp_lock_pages] *ERROR* agp_allocate_memory_phys_list failed
[fglrx:firegl_agp_lock_pages] *ERROR* agp_allocate_memory_phys_list failed
[fglrx:firegl_agp_lock_pages] *ERROR* agp_allocate_memory_phys_list failed

etc....

Everything seems to be working properly so obviously nothing critical

Lufs supports lots of different protocols instead of just ssh. I'd prefer lufs over this solution, since it's more of an "all in one" type dealie. Not a bad idea though.

SMP has been broken since 2.6.5-love5

Any reason why this may possibly be?

What? I'm using SMP right now. What leads you to believe that SMP is broken?

I have not been able to get either kernels to boot with SMP support enabled. I am trying the mm-sources to see if I get the same result. The bootup just spits out some jibberish and freezes requiring a hard reboot.......

They do boot with SMP unselected, and I am running an HT processor, not an actual 2 cpu system, so i did try to also have SMT support enabled and disabled, neither made any difference

Hmm, odd, it shouldn't do that. I'm guseeing it ahs something to do with apic or acpi. Did you enable acpi? Could you pass pci=coacpi on the kernel line and see if it boots then?

Well, I got a little further with pci=noacpi, here is the error message

Kernel panic: Fatal exception in interrupt

then it lists some cpu registers, ie ebx, ecx, edx, ds and so on. But is frozen to the world......

Was this on mm or love or both? What are your system specs?

exactly the same on both, I am running a 2.8 p4, on an intel d865perl mobo at 800mhz. Both kernels will start with SMP disabled, and this started with 2.6.5-love5 ( I did not try the mm-sources with that kernel, but I suppose the outcome to be similiar). I am not sure what other specs would be handy, let me know.... Thanks Steel

hmm, could you try backing out this patch and tell me how it goes:
