Hi.
Is the MC available in the Portage tree ?
Or maybe some other console file manager...
Thank you for your help in advance.
Best regards,

MC doesn't need any GUI, it's an console app. But MC has an dep. to XFree - so bring some time with you when you start the emerge process. On my 233 MHz Router it took 8:30 hours to compile. |

Are there any other (functional enought) alternatives without
GUI dependences ? |

X is not a dependancy of the midnight commander. XFree is only compiled if you have X in your USE var. So if you enter the following commands:
export USE="-X"
emerge mc
you will just install the mc, not XFree. |

More precisely, midnight commander has optional support for X, but X has to be installed for it to work (obviously). Having USE="-X" tells it to compile without support for X, hence it's no longer a dependancy. _________________ "An empty head is not really empty; it is stuffed with rubbish.
