LiveCD-Gentoo-Reiser4
hi, its my pleasure to announce the love-sources official gentoo livecd.
this livecd contains a 2.6.5 kernel patched with cfq, v30b and reiser4.
the goal is to provide a extremely fast livecd with reiser4 compatibility.
and other great tools that the official basic livecd is missing.
the iso is 120mb, and availiable via torrent.

|
|
Hello,
This looks great. One request though? Could you include Wireless tools? My brother runs on a wireless network, I have been trying to get him to TRY linux and he keeps saying ( I have to agree ) that getting his DLink 520 Version E cards working is to say the least very very difficult. Anyhow as I dont run wireless personally I will be trying this out soon! I have been itching to give Reiser4 a go.
Thanks _________________ Life is only as interesting as you make it |

Downloading torrent with Azureus to a reiser4 partition results in many corrupted pieces and sometimes corrupted files. Does anyone have this problem? |

Does anyone know where i can see a list of known bugs for reiserfs4 ?
i would really like ti install it on my 500 gb SATA raid0 system (Yeah, call me a speed devil )
if its stable enough, i will wipe out my partitions and make a new install of gentoo with reiserfs4. _________________ Encrypt, lock up everything and duct tape the rest |

No other ways than using torrents to get hold of this?
I'm not about to install bit-torrent just to get this cd...
Oh well..

There are still 2 known bugs in ReiserFS4 apparently. I would wait till these bugs are ironed out before putting all your data on it, and then maybe a bit longer. Presumably you have huge mediafiles on your HD, meaning backups of volumes that size are probably impractical. |

Use Bittorrent ebrostig, feel the love and sharing
Its the best way of distributing big files, means no one has to cough up silly money on bandwidth charges.
Code: |
USE='-X' ACCEPT_KEYWORDS='~x86' emerge bittorrent
|
Go on
Then just type on the command line
Code: |
btdownloadcurses.py --responsefile torrentfile.torrent --max_upload_rate <half_your_upload_bandwidth>

for the ones who worry about bugs. the 2 bugs is a NFS related one. and a mmap one. but still hans says that reiser4 is stable enough for average users. and it runs fine here, and alot other places i have heard about.
wireless tools.. list the names of them, and eventually kernel patches. and i will include in next version |

How's / support? The README still says
Code: | 4. reiser4 has been tested as a root file system and works in read-only mode,
but:
. remount is not yet supported,
. support in boot-loaders may be missing |
Can they really be so close to releasing it but not have / support? |

/boot reiserfs3
/ reiser4
/home reiser4
I patched grub to boot of reiser4, but I failed to get it to accept the file format. _________________ Proud to be a 22 year old Infidel, GNOME lover and member of LIK. |

Did you use catalyst to create it? I tried and tried and failed...
Thing is, I need a really small patch (2 lines) to get my usb eciadsl modem to work with 2.6, so I'd need to create my own... unless you would like to do it for me _________________ Non fa male! Non fa male! |

Excuse my ignorance, but if I use this liveCD to install Gentoo, how would I connect through my adsl connection? There are no adsl scripts that I can find. Do I have to set it up manually or am I missing something(like the purpose of this liveCD)? |

I used this CD to finally switch / to reiser4, and everything's been working since then. I haven't tried to boot form it, however. I'm using an ext2 /boot. Anyway, thanks Redeeman. |
