What's good about Fluxbox has been extensively discussed in other threads. What I find most important is that it's light weight (fast) and easy to customize. This makes it very productive.

In addition to resizing windows by mouse, you can add something like this to your ~/.fluxbox/keys:
Code:

Mod4 a :MaximizeVertical
Mod4 x :MaximizeHorizontal
Mod4 z :MaximizeWindow
Shift Control Mod1 s :HorizontalIncrement
Shift Control Mod1 a :HorizontalDecrement
Shift Control Mod1 z :VerticalIncrement
Shift Control Mod1 w :VerticalDecrement
