I am at the point in gentoo install where I am configurig grub, but I am having some trouble,
I go into grub
grub> root (hd0,
Partition num: 0, Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x7
Partition num: 4, Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x83
Partition num: 5, Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x83
Partition num: 6, Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x82
Partition num: 7, Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x7
all the partitons say unknown type, when 4 and 5 are reiserfs and 0 and 7 are NTFS..... so say if I tryed to do
grub>root (hd0,5)
I cant its unknown file type cant mount or something.....
anyhelp greatly appricated. |

Hi,
I had a similar experience when formatting my /boot partition as reiserfs: grub refuses to install because of unknown fs type (maybe reiserfs v. 3.5 or 3.6 matters?). Anyway formatting it as ext2fs (and installing grub files, of course!) makes grub happy.
Now if only grub could boot my IBM 40G Deskstar /dev/hda1 I will be happy ... _________________ ---

I tried to Force the newer version of grub to make it work Code: | emerge unmerge grub
cd /usr/portage/sys-aps/grub
emerge grub-0.92.ebuild
| but it fails when you issue 'setup(hd0)'
Is their an easy way to view dependancy/decision tree for a specific e-build? i.e. emerge grub backed down to 0.90 because of ncurses, ncurses is specified in package.mask...
back story:
I also had issues with grub in 1.4_rc1... it would report unkown filesystem for 2 of my three reiserfs partitons. My oldest partiton ( /home ) being the only one it will report correctly.
Since my partitons from the prior 1.2 install were identical, I held my breath ( what choice did i have ) and rebooted. It worked ok, but still the new grub does not like my reiserfs partiton. |
