I am gearing up for a test system install of gentoo... I plan on installing on the 1.4 final release.
Two questions still remain for me..
Firstly, I have read the install instructions, but I could not find a place dedicated to compiler flags. Is there a document somewhere to figure out the right (read best performance after compilation) options to pass when compiling gentoo?
And secondly is my question are the portage emerge systems... If I choose to install a program before it's out on the ebuild's system, and then at a later date the emerge system has the version of the program that I have already installed, will this create conflicts?
Thanks, Josh. |

Two good resources are CFLAGS Central and http://www.freehackers.org/gentoo/gccflags/.

Possibly. The simpler the package, the less chance of this happening. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Just trying to inflate my post count.
Actually, I got an error here I had never seen before: an Error 421 from phpBB telling me it was having trouble sending mail, so it refused to accept my post (well it told me it had refused it, anyway). _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
