after reading this thread ... https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=16008&highlight=radeon+7000+performance i decided to emerge and run opengl-update. after running opengl-update xfree i get about 450 fps on my radeon 7000 in glxgears. while a drastic improvement does anyont know anything else? and also i think there should be some klinda documentation somewhere saying to do this :) it helps a ton, after all, theres TONS of gentoo+nvidia docs :P

Radeon drivers are supplied by the dri project, sadly the docs there are lacking too. It took me a while to get mine running with gentoo for the same reason your's didn't work.

For some performance you might want to try putting in "4" in your XF86Config file at the line with
Code:
Option "AGPMode"  "2"

hope it helps.

I didn't have that entry in my xf86config, i added it and restarted and it didn't change anything, it was probably using it by default, im getting about 550 fps in glxgears after setting the opengl enviroment but its still really slow while playing cs, like 15-30 fps
