I have a SS20 W/ dual Ross Hypersparcs and 512MB of RAM. I am trying to mkswap and I keep getting an error even though I have setup the partion with Fdisk and set it to type 82. There is also a "u" in the flag collom, any ideas as to where I am screwing up?
Thanks in advance,

Are you using the SMP kernel on the LiveCD? Also which LiveCD? On older kernels, you would see this error message, but the free command would show the swap as available. |

Nope, I have been booting the vanilla kernel and can't get the mkswap command to work for me. It is the 1.4 live CD so as far as I know it is the latest.
Any other ideas and what is the "u" flag on the fdisk table?

2.4 smp is buggy for sparc32 in general, and especially for hypersparcs. I'd see if it works ok without SMP support.
The u flag i believe toggles whether a partition is bootable or not, which doesn't apply to sparc. So having the u flag on the swap partition for instance doesn't cause problems one way or another. |

I finaly got the thing to work though not in SMP but it is building as I type and I hope that it will be done when I get back to it tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for the help and info to all.
Does anyone know if there is going to be any fixes to the SMP kernel for sparc32? are the developers working on this any or are they just focusing on sparc64?
Thanks again for the help,
