I just emerged Mozilla 1.1 (yea the masked one :)), and I emerged Blackdown Java2RE along with it. I made sure there was a symbolic link to the java file, and there is, but Mozilla isn't detecting it in the plugins area. Anyone have any idea why?

If you are using gcc3.2, You have to compile dev-java/sun-j2sdk see this thread: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=13635&highlight=gcc+java

Its fun!

Thx for the help, I'll have to compile it tommorrow, just decided to do a fresh install of Gentoo, because I thought it'd be quicker to do that than update 1.2. I have a ton of programs to emerge tonight :(.

Be warned though, lots of us who've taken the rebuild-Java-from-scratch route have found that the fix doesn't completely work. Namely, even though your freshly compiled Java plug-in will now show up in Mozilla's "About Plug-in" help screen, Mozilla will subsequently crash when trying to host a Java applet. So will Galeon.

I think it's only those applets which use AWT to render graphics that trigger the crash, though I can't find any applets that don't :(

FWIW the Java VM works fine when running Java apps that aren't applets.

Hopefully you'll have more luck.
