Hi everyone!
Been running gentoo for a month now on my iMac, and yesterday I decided to reinstall it.
Well, now I can't get yaboot to load my kernel!!!
The only thing I can get to work is with this line:
image=cd:,/boot/vmlinux
Every time it tries to load a kernel from the harddrive, nothing happens! No errormessages, nothing... |

I would check the following lines in your /etc/yaboot.conf file to make sure they are set correct.
"boot=/dev/hdXX" to make sure it points to your bootstrap partition
"device=hd:" I am guessing for an iMac
"partition=X" where X is the partition number where your kernel images are stored
If you are still having problems, I am sure someone could help you if you would post your /etc/yaboot.conf and the output of "mac-fdisk -l" (lower case L) |

Ok, I will post yaboot.conf here next time I boot into linux, but it's not like I get the old "image not found" error or something like that!
It just stops in it's tracks, dead, nothing, have to press the reset button to restart and try again!
I know what I'm doing...
I've tried everything including setting the full path of the image like
image=hd:12,/boot/vmlinux-2.5.41
and everytime it just dies!
Even if I enter somthing like "hello!" and press enter it dies completely, exactly the same thing! Try that, enter hello instead of selecting a image.... what does your computer do?
I've tried yaboot 1.3.6 (the ebuild) and yaboot 1.3.7 from penguinppc.org.
Things that could affect this.... XFS filesystem? But I had it working with XFS before!!! |
