specifically enemy-territory:
i use fluxbox, and as soon as i start up et all the keybindings i specified in fluxbox dont work anymore, wich means i cant alt-tab out of the game or minimize it or anything. there is no way i know of short of killing the game to return to desktop; this can be pretty annoying.
any ideas?

my solution to this problem is to run two copies of x at once (I havent noticed any performance penalties in doing this, I use fluxbox for my gaming desktop). so I can just <ALT>+<CTRL>+<F7> to change my gnome desktop (or whatever) then I can just <ALT>+<CTRL>+<F8> to put me back in what ever game im in. I have also found this to be very useful when running stuff with wine as quite often it screws up your desktop so this way if it does no big deal.

I use the following command to start my second x session:
startx -- :1 -depth 16

As mwm pointed out, simply run et in another xserver. At that point, you can switch back and forth between your desktop and your game as many times as you heart desires :)

ForumSlacker:

Would mwm2000's solution would with an .xinitrc to start the second session for Wine?

If so, I'd love to be able to simply ctrl-alt-f7/f8 to switch as needed

Intriguing, what does "alt + enter" do?

Alt + enter don't do nothing here.

In some W/M's alt + enter spawns a terminal shell.

It would be cool to figure out how to do this without starting yet another x server. I mean, my system /could/ run that fine but I'm going for minimalism nonetheless.

Running URT not in fullscreen but at the resolution of my monitor lets me alt+tab away from it and click back to it. That's satifactory for now. Maybe there is a way for the window manager to give explicit focus back to that process when in full screen. Will experiment more with that later.
