I did an emerge alsa but when I startx I get the message "Couldn't open the mixer device /dev/sound/mixer". Is there some steps I need to follow besides just "emerge alsa"? |

Well if you run defsd you will have to change the permission of the sound portion in /etc/devfsd or add your user to the audio group so he will be able to read and write to the device.
good luck |

I had problems with the right module on my computer and had that problem. Try going to the console and starting alsasound, something like:
/etc/init.d/alsasound start
And let us know what the error message is. Also you might try running amixer and let us know what that message is also. Last but not least let us know what kind of sound card you are using. Good luck. _________________ ~ Always ask questions!
