LOL, the E-Bay things are obviously an April Fool's joke, but I hope 0.76 stays around.

Relive history with this treasury of Gaim releases. From it's early days as a crappy TOC client to it's current incarnation as a crappy TOC client with a few extra features, this is your chance to "walk down memory lane".

I actually don't think they're April Fools tricks, I think they're actually trying to drum up some money. I'm thinking of bidding on the Rugrat's napkin myself...

I like the message at the top of the ebuild that basically tells me that I'm not allowed to ask for help upstream at all.

That's real cool.

you can say all you want about the gaim devs being jerks not providing you with support, but the fact is, this is free software, just be glad they put their time into making it.

Well, it makes their free software less worth it.

I'm switching to Gossip as soon as it supports AIM.

I'm not a big fan of the new scroll bar that seems to serve no purpose.

Next major release I think.. most of the code should be in place.

choice is good :)

all im saying is, its hardly fair to get too angry over lack of "tech support" for a free product. in a profit project, the actual developers almost never have to deal with customers directly on tech issues, there is usually someone in the middle providing that service (often the publisher). the fact is its usually just dumb users, which can be very frustrating and developers have better things to do.

This doesn't change the fact that one invests time in using an app, even if it's free, and is therefore rightly pissed if the developers make it harder to use the app after the fact with their dickish behavior.

Same goes for Foser, the Gentoo GNOME maintainer.

I think you simply have some text that is slightly too long for the window to display. So technically, it does serve a purpose, otherwise it would not show.

pissed? fair enough, but don't take it out on the developers. if you dont like it, don't use it. or if you don't like a new feature, use an old version or take out the code in the new version. or if you're so pissed that you can't stand it, fork it. don't like foser's gnome ebuilds? write your own!

but don't direct your frustration at the developers who are putting loads of time and effort into FOSS when they don't follow your every wish.

echo'ing mastergoon, choice is good!

I try, where I can. Unfortunately, there is only one Gentoo, and the movement to depose Foser is lukewarm at best. I am planning on switching from GAIM to Gossip as soon as AIM is supported, as I have described.

I agree..shutup. Until you produce something that people can use, nobody wants to hear your complaining. Even if you did produce something useful,I still don't want to hear your complaining.
What examples do you have to backup your statements that gaim has gotten harder to use overtime as a result of developers?

What movement to depose foser? If you think that a lead dev will get removed because they are quick to inform somebody (probably like yourself) when they ask a dumb question..then you should probably be more concerend with something else.

Phew :P I was about to post my CV.

If you can't file a bug report simply because you use Gentoo, that makes GAIM harder to use; if you can't submit bug reports simply because you've used BMG ebuilds in the past, that makes Gentoo harder to use.
