OK, I fscked /dev/sda6, and got these:

Can't get into any system except one

The story goes like this: After finishing playing with a newly installed ubuntu (/dev/sda6), I typed 'reboot' but it locked up at certain place, and I needed to switch the power off to get start again; that's where the woes began. After pressing Windows (/dev/sda1) at the grub menu, I only see a ...

xcomposit and superkaramba

I compiled kdebase with the "xcomposit" USE, so I can turn on the "Use translucency/shadows" option in the Control Center. The effects work fine, but the shadow of the superkaramba thing on my desktop doesn't look very nice. Is there a way to turn off the shadow effect just for superkaramba?

Re: why don't you...

All this asking users to change there encodings isn't really necessary. Just add ,
<Directory />
AddDefaultCharset utf-8
</Directory>
to your httpd.conf file. It will fix the French and Arabic text too.
That way our "auto detect" encoding features will work correctly.
I don't have httpd.conf ...

Gentoo 2006.0 sucks, it does not work. and it too slow. After compiling the whole system, my computer was slow and i am having tonnes of errors.
My 2006.0 works just fine. Did you install it the traditional way?

How come the LFS livecd is so small? The only relevant stuff on the CD is the 'boot' directory, which is only 3MB, but when you boot into it, you'll have an XFCE with Firefox! 8O
There is a hidden file called .root.sqfs (which is more than 200mb) on the CD.
No wonder. Why do they want to hide ...

Thank you, Bad Penguin. Now I have the directory.
I used the stage1-x86-2005.1-r1.tar.bz2, the CHOST variable is i386-pc-linux-gnu; according to the handbook, I'm not supposed to change it, so I didn't.

Re: NPTL and /lib/tls directory

Perhaps something to do with "-linuxthreads-tls" in your USE flags?
I've tried recompiling glibc with the "-linuxthreads-tls" USE, but still no /lib/tls directory. Even worse, now nptl is gone, too.

NPTL and /lib/tls directory [solved]

I have read somewhere, which says "If you don't use the "nptlonly" flag, you will have the linuxthreads version of glibc in /lib and the NPTL version in /lib/tls."
Here's my USE flags for glibc: # emerge -pv glibc

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

How "small" is the cd then? Boot dir only contains a kernel.
Other things are package sources and handbook.

Gentoo is a technical forum, I just don't think threads like http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-433656.html is appropriate here.
