Re: The Gentoo Big Forum Upgrade - Discussion

FWIW, I use the Dark Reader extension (add-on) on Firefox. The extension is set to the default Dynamic setting. It gives the forums a dark mode setting and it looks great to me. There is also Filter, Filter+ and Static, which each change the color palette slightly. Personally I prefer Dynamic.
I ...

Re: [Solved] Unable to login to forum on Firefox

It seems the issue was the cache. I restored and deleted my profile several times to confirm the solution.
What ended up resolving the issue was clearing the cache (Temporary cached files and pages).
Clearing cookies alone, as I stated in my solution earlier, didn't actually work.
After deleting ...

Re: Unable to login to forum on Firefox

What finally worked:
There are two icons in the address bar to the left of the site address on Firefox. The first is Enhanced Protections icon which looks like a shield. The second is Security icon which looks like a lock. When hovering over this icon it says "Verfied By:Let's Encrypt". When ...

Thanks, I did notice that button in Firefox and used it but it did not seem to have any effect. Thanks anyway.

[Solved] Unable to login to forum on Firefox

I was not able to log in to the updated forum on Firefox. If I attempt to use any of the features on the log in page in Firefox (i.e.
"I forgot my password", "Resend Activation Email" or after entering credentials and hitting the "Login" button) It displays an error:

The 9999 version should really be for testing. This is a live ebuild that installs code from upstream that may be a work in progress. Commits sometimes break things and are rolled back later. You should expect this kind of breakage if you are going to install the 9999 versions.

The ebuild in ...

Around that time, 2003, would have been my first experience with Gentoo. I had been studying Operating Systems in IT school, including Red Hat and various live recovery distros like Knoppix. Novell Netware was also really big at the time. Mepis was my other distro of choice, the original Debian ...

As far as I can remember it has always worked like that.
Maybe look at the manpages for pipewire. A copy can be found at

/etc/pipewire/pipewire.conf

I am not getting any of those QT errors when setting up alarms or testing them so I would think they are significant,
The only thing I can suggest is to figure out how to debug QT, this is done through an environment variable If I remember correctly.

Also, make sure your make sure you machine is ...

First, are you on stable or testing?
Which version of kalarm are you using?
There are currently two in the gentoo repo, 25.12.3 (testing) and 25.12.2 (stable).
Open disclosure: I am using my own custom ebuild for kalarm version 25.12.2 so that I can avoid mpv. (I am using vlc as a sound backend.)

I am confused ... why do you need an ALLOW OUT when you have already an ALLOW (all) ?

You are right, I do not. I once was troubleshooting a local kde-filesharing/avahi/network discovery issue and forgot to delete a temporary rule.

There are links to the nftables wiki at the end of the Gentoo wiki page, which I personally found much more readable. A useful section is "Moving from iptables to nftables", which was enough to get my iptables rules converted to nftables. From there, with a concrete representation of what I wanted ...

I do not understand any of that. It is currently way too complicated for me. I will just stick with the UFW setup for the time being and see how things progress over time.

The default UFW policy is to deny.
This is my current UFW rule set. It allows traffic to ...

I think what I like about UFW is that the syntax is very much reminiscent of setting up Cisco equipment, using human readable statements in a deliberate sequence to set up the firewall. Block everything and then make exceptions while ensuring you don't lock yourself out if working remotely. Having ...

Advice for migrating from IPTABLES to NFTABLES

I recently migrated from kernel version 6.12 to 6.18. Upon reboot I noticed that UFW did not start. After reading the error message, I realized I needed to enable the legacy IP TABLES module. After loading the module, the UFW (firewall) is working as before.
That being said, I did read that UFW has ...

You didn't mention that you are using unstable, but I assume from your package versions that you are. Did you file a bug report?
