I just installed pure-ftpd and configged it (like so many times before) and everything is working.

I get this:

1. Check /usr/portage/distfiles. You can delete everything in there as long as your not doing an emerge at the time.

2. Also, check out the cruft cleaner:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=152618

That can clean your system up quite a bit too.

3. Something else I do to clean my system is ...

I solved this problem by removing the entries about authldap and authmysql since I dont use them.
This at least solved my problem and made authdaemon startable again.
I also removed the /etc/init.d/authdaemond script since there now is a /etc/init.d/courier-authd :)

yes if u are using udev u can remove the devfsd from ur system.
It is the daemon that manages the devices at startup using devfs... But since u use UDEV that isnt necessary. I removed it myself and am still alive :p

I have been away from the community for about two months, but I was under the impression that ATI was supposed to have some 64-bit drivers available by now. Can anyone shed some light on any recent news?

Last news from the ubuntu forums was that the rcs are already tested and that a final release ...

Ow and kdocker does exactly what it should do: target a window and it makes a systray icon for it. No more useless taskbar space eaten up by XMMS: YAY!

That's unfair. The ATI drivers are EXCELLENT when they come out. ATI's main problem has always been a lack of driver updates (huh? We gave you drivers once already!). IIRC, they have said they would give us more updates.. Now, this may include only 32bit, or even only Windows, but ATI makes good ...
