Re: What's changed in the last 7 or so years

I was hoping a few of the old-hats might be able to enlighten me of some of the major changes that might trip me up(both Gentoo specific and Linux overall).
Biggest changes Linux-wise would be the udev monstrosity that has entangled everything.

Hmm without meaning to get into a potentially ...

What's changed in the last 7 or so years

So I used to be a hardcore Gentoo user (my first post was back in 03, don't recall how long I was using it before then); but about 8ish years ago I just didn't have time to maintain my systems the way I liked, and I either consolidated them or migrated to other distro's. Hell in all honesty I haven ...

Because I can be an impatient fellow; I scripted up a (bad) piece of work to automatically fetch the latest revision of Myth and adjust the ebuilds and such accordingly (including creating the tarballs and digesting the ebuilds which are simply renamed from the previous version)

It's not perfect ...

I seem to be having a similar problem, where the bottom half (3/4's, or sometimes all ) of the picture will display a few seperate frames of the image in random order giving the image a blocky or distorted apperance. Almost like a tracking error on a VHS cassette. I first noticed it with a DVD from ...

Turns out, it had nothing to do with refresh rates, or Windows vs Linux settings or anything software at all. It was whats called "Ground Loop Interference". Basically, my cable line (which feeds into my Linux Box) had a different ground voltage (for lack of a better term) than that of my surge ...

Odd issue with LCD TV over VGA (Win vs Linux) [SOLVED]

I recently picked up a Westinghouse LTV-37w2 LCD HDTV to replace a small 20" LCD tv that was the primary display of a media-center box. Long story short, is after adjusting my xorg.conf file to fit the 1360*768 resolution; I get what I can only describe as refresh lines on my screen.

They look very ...

Re: cannot install .21?

hi,

portage seems to be stuck at 0.20_p13706, it doesnt want to upgrade to 0.21, even though i have these lines in /etc/portage/package.keywords/mythtv

You need to manually unmask the 0.21* series as well as there are some versions already in portage that pull off of the live mythtv subversion ...

While switching to qt worked for me as well, I found that re-setting my opengl settings allowed me to go back to opengl mode (which is what I prefer)

Code: Select all

eselect opengl set nvidia
Of course that assumes you're using the nvidia drivers and such.

YMMV

If you're trying to digest the ebuilds (in order to use them) then you need all the files marked in the SRC_URI statement; even if you're not going to use the files in question.

Open the bjfilter-2.50-r4.ebuild file up, and remove replace lines that read (around line 22)

SRC_URI="${HOMEPAGE}${PN ...

First, read "man emerge" on the -c and -C.

Not to be snarky but you might want to take your own advice.

emerge -c does {and I quote}
Cleans the system by removing packages that will not affect the
functionality of the system . The arguments can be ebuilds,
sets, or dependencies. For example ...

I hate to post a "Well it works for me" but quite simply...it does. Admittedly it didn't to begin with when I used the (apparently out of date) formula for figuring the -j value: #CPUS+1. I can whip up some new versions.

Done. I've also gone ahead and found a better host (I think); All of my AMD64 binaries can now be found up here . I can't be sure of how stable they are but they don't have so many bloody adds.

As a side note, if anyone has problems while using these binaries ...

Thank you very much for your contributions. I'm going to check and add them as soon as possible. :)

Speaking of when you update the ebuild, would it be too ...

I finally got a few minutes and made a 64-bit chroot via the normal stage 3 tarball; from there I emerged cnijfilter (and deps) and built binaries from those. I transfered them to my real install and...no dice; atleast until I recompiled cups and so far everything is working great (again ...

As previously noted however, the difference between 7400 and 7450 is marginal performance wise so if you've already got a ...
