Permissions issue?
Like in: are you allowed to read this directory? it can produce bizzare results...

I am able to read the directory on 5.0.x and I didn't change my permissions.

Perhaps your user mapping has changed, so you no longer connect as the user you think ...

Kernel 5.1.x breaks NFS ?

Hello fine folks,

So I updated my kernel from 5.0.16 to 5.1.3, putting all new config at "not set" and booting the 5.1.3 kernel, I can still mount my NFS drive but if I try to read it with ls(1), I have an Input/Output error.

Strangely, I can cd(1) to subfolders but ls(1) still behaves the same ...

Hello Zucca,

Thanks for the proposal, the command didn't had any effect (system was up to date and didn't want to update to ruby23, I'm only prompted for ruby23 when I do @changed-deps)

but I followed your idea and removed ruby22 :

emerge --unmerge =ruby-2.2.10
emerge --ask --depclean ...

[Solved] A little help with ruby23 ?

So I don't know exactly how to solve that one, ruby 2.2 has been hard masked but the 2.3 upgrade is giving me issues.

It all started after a sync and @changed-deps

Dwarf ~ # emerge @changed-deps
Calculating dependencies... done!

freifunk_connewitz summed up my experience as well, it worked for years before for sure.

Would it be useful to enter a bug for such behaviour ?

Myu,

I guess its the keymap in the initrd if you have everything except /boot encrypted.
openRC isn't normally in the initrd.

Hello Neddy !

Actually, no only my /home is encrypted, / and /boot are in clear and I don't have an initrd, so just setting up /etc/conf.d/keymaps + enabling the openrc ...

Keymap at boot time & LUKS

Hello there,

Since a recent update (udev?), my custom keymap at boot time is not loaded, hence I need to type my LUKS password as if I'm using a QWERTY keyboard which is pretty annoying...

Is there a "proper" way to fix that ?

Right now my openRC is setup like this :

rc-config list | grep ...

Intel CPU's older than 5 years should get microcode security fixes : https://newsroom.intel.com/news-releases/security-first-pledge/

Wait, what?
Do I get you right? Are you trying to loop the output from a physical device back to a virtual console?
Try this instead: You just hook up another display (or another input of your display) to the video card you passed to your guest and launch that VM again.

Yeah +1 to what szatox ...

I think that intel will upgrade cpu microcode in waves.

I have ThinkPad t530 (sandy bridge) with Windoze and Lenovo support page about Meltdown vulnerability stays that new bios will be available from 2/2/2018. So there is big probability that they will be sending microcodes for older families ...

Forgive me for the conspiracy theory, but by Intel refusing to update microcode for older CPU's, and as a result forcing the user
to update to a newer CPU, is this not worthy of what Americans call a class action lawsuit?

Could be, not in the US anyway but I'll be voting with my wallet if I need ...

Have an Intel CPU and 4.14.11 ? Then run

Code: Select all

Is there any mitigation possible, perhaps in either the kernel config, or via CFLAGs, that removes some feature that is allowing this exploitable path in our chipsets? Pretty ugly stuff - and I wonder who has been exploiting this for years without the public knowing...

Don't bother yourself with CONFIG_PAGE_TABLE_ISOLATION, it won't help since your system have already a backdoor called nvidia proprietary drivers

Not fixable by microcode 8O

Linux 4.14.11 contains the KPTI (Kernel page table isolation) patch developped by Intel which incurs a performance hit (between 5 and 50%) to all Intel CPU users under certain workloads (syscalls will be slower)

Then you start QEMU and what happens ? You don't have ...
