Absolutely gorgeous - seemed to work like a charm.
And sorry about the thread. :( I searched google up and down and just couldn't imagine that there would be as stupid as me and do the very same thing in such a short period that google wouldn't have it in its cache.

[SOLVED] Killed portage, and am trying to revive it

Last sunday I have installed livestreamer for twtich.tv. Apparently I screwed up something, because every python script in /usr/bin has been replaced with the livestreamer startup script.

Annoying.

Which means that whenever I tried to "emerge" or "ebuild" something, it would just give me the error ...

mingw32 - Missing DirectX headers for 32 bit target system

I need to write a DLL for Wndows, and since I don't plan to do that on Windows (because the build environment is crap), I decided to use mingw32.
I used this document that describes what to do in which order. The commands that I issued are:

emerge --ask sys-devel/crossdev
USE=-sanitize crossdev ...

dev-libs/boost-1.52.0-r7: couldn't be emerged

This problem is actually solved, but just for me. I guess there will be others with the same problem before long.

I wanted to update my box:

OK, I just tossed all recommendations that you guys suggested away, because ... seriously? Just to enable VDPAU? Gotta be kidding me.
Also, with the latest update, they seemed to have fixed the initial problem. 1.3.0 is now supported for my box:

About the current rc kernel - I may try it when it enters the portage tree as I do not wish to fiddle with raw kernels.

Yeah, because that's, like, so deadly to your machine, not to mention for your OS ... oh wait, that's not true. ;)

Re: Can't mount USB3.0 flash drive Kingston DT Ultimate 3.0

# dmesg

[10177.327565] usb 4-3: Set SEL for device-initiated U2 failed.

This behavior occurs in other distros like the latest Fedora and Lubuntu so I presume its kernel related bug. Also tested a bunch of custom kernels up to 3.15.2 - now I am at genkernel-next.
Any help is greatly ...

I wouldn't know how to include them in the kernel.

That one is easy. Make sure that CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE_DIR is set properly (that is, the directory of the files you want to include), and then just set CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE to all files that you want to have in your kernel, space-separated ...

I use 32bit stuff pretty much for wine only - for how little I use wine.

Not as much screwed up, as directly contradicted yourself. It's almost the same as if you set all your useflags in make.conf. Not that the big hammer won't work.

Maybe you got me wrong - when I say "bloat", I mean "stuff ...

I use 32 bit applications for other stuff as well, not only zsnes - that one just caused the problems.

So you're suggesting removing the flag and try it again or what?

But if you want to have it your own way, just keep adding those packages emerge asks for, till the run completes successfully. It ...

[1] contains an xorg.conf which has those monitor sections: http://bpaste.net/show/99096/

And your Xorg is deleting the nVidia card, I guess because you did not specify on which monitor the screen should be displayed.

Wait ... didn't you say it got [worse] after you symlinked the DRI library for Xorg?
Because I thought that you expected 60 FPS, not 55 FPS. glxgears often runs with V-Sync enabled, so you cannot really use it for benchmarks. 55 FPS indeed would be slow on V-Sync:

[SOLVED] libdrm-2.4.52 exports wrong version?

But I best begin from the beginning.

I noticed that watching a video on YouTube in HD takes one processor core to render. Wondering what was going wrong here, I googled and tested the program vainfo:

Those are kernel symbols.
I took a quick look, these symbols seem to be in ...
