You can't set dma through hdparm?

Code: Select all

# hdparm -d1 /dev/hda
I have the A7N8X and I have a strange dma issue as well but I can always set it using hdparm once it boots up.

Okay cool. Right now I have this in XF86Config:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX (generic)"
VideoRam 32768
EndSection

The FX5950 has 256mb of ram so I would change VideoRam 32768 to VideoRam 256000 right ...

Nvidia Card Upgrade

Hey folks. I just ordered the Nvidia GeForce FX5950 Ultra and I'm really excited. I have a rather silly question though. I currently have an old Nvidia card running and I used the nvidia-kernel build for the drivers. My question is, is it necessary to re-emerge these drivers once I install the new ...

Success! It seams that the issue was with libfam all along. I remember running into problems with a libfam update before.

Thank you everyone for your help.

Illegal Instruction Errors Getting Worse

I started with a new install from stage 3 on an old 500mhz Pentium machine. I went to use nano to try and edit some conf files but it just died saying:

"Illegal Instruction"

I didn't get upset because I don't use nano. I wrote it off. Now I've emerged grub and after typing 'grub' to setup the ...

Okay I haven't had any luck with this. Any applcation that is remotely related to kde fails to compile as well. I've tried re-emerging libsdl. I've tried re-emerging every version of autoconf and automake. I've tried emerging in this order:

- Emerge arts
- Emerge kdelibs ...

Okay I tried this and it did not work as well. emerge kdebase re-install autoconf and causes the same error.

Can't we get an official answer on this bug?

emerge -U kdebase fails

I did a search and found a lot about kde 3.2 but I couldn't find anything like this. When I try to update kde it fails with this:

Okay I may be on to something here. From other posts I've read it seems that /etc/devfsd.conf may have something to do with the problem. What is devfs? Maybe my conf file got messed up when I used etc-update.

I've been running the 2.6 kernel with the Andrew Mortenson patch set for a few months now(mm-sources). Everything has worked fine. It has to do with changing one of the .conf files after running etc-update. Which file is the question.

I remember one of the conf files changed was in /etc/modules ...

If dmesg shows it as /dev/hdc shouldn't their actually be a /dev/hdc? I'm really confused. Perhaps I need a module loaded or something?

/dev/cdrom automagically stopped working

Well, after I ran an update on a few things and changed my configuration files I came to find upon reboot that /dev/cdrom was a dead link. Its been working for about 3 months now with this kernel. Apparently etc-update messed up one of the config files.

dmesg shows that my cdrom drive is detected ...

How does one become a Gentoo developer?

I just started using Gentoo about 3 months ago after being a RedHat user for quite some time. I really love the distro and would love to help out in any way possible.

I read the documentation for developers but I didn't see any where how to help out exactly.
