I've recently had some problems installing scipy (0.12.1 and 0.13.2-r1).

When I emerge scipy, I get the error
Blas (http://www.netlib.org/blas/) libraries not found.

I tracked down the problem to be a combination of numpys distutils and the site.cfg file generated by the scipy ebuild.

After som more digging and installing it without any problem on another machine, I found that
the culprit is the python use flag. Adding to /etc/portage/package.use solved the problem.

Is that not a bug?

Well, removing the ACPI_VIDEO config option from your .config made the kernel work
with no problems. Keyboard functioning and everything.

I guess Linux(2.6.30) just doesn't like the ACPI system on my computer...

No, this has nothing to do with X. I don't run a graphical login manager, so it's just the terminal here.

Today, I decided I'd like the screen brightness hotkeys on my laptop to work properly.
I grabbed the latest stable kernel from kernel.org (2.6.30) and
more or less copied the old working .config, plus adding

ACPI_VIDEO=y

The kernel compiled without problems, and everything looked allright when ...

update:

After putting a ServerName into httpd.conf, Apache gave an error message
about it not being able to find an ip address of "localhost". After fixing my broken /etc/hosts
Apache runs without problems.

In /etc/conf.d/rc, set RC_NET_STRICT_CHECKING to "lo" so that the net.eth0 script doesn't need to be up (it's the script which is checked, not the interface).

rc had RC_NET_STRICT_CHECKING="no", setting it to "lo" and running the apache2 startup script yields
localhost conf.d # /etc/init.d ...

Does /var/log/messages or /var/log/httpd/error.log say anything when you attempt to start Apache?
