Right, it didn't work here, found this thread, installed myspell-en, myspell-nl and myspell-de, the three languages I would like spell checking in. But still no spellchecking at all. OpenOffice claims only support for spanish has been installed, which is one I haven't got on my system.

I'm using ...

Right, I finally got it to work.

Things suggested in this thread did not work for me(editing prefs.js).

I found this: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?format=multiple&id=219444

It seems that when the protocol-handler for http/https is not set in thunderbird, it uses gnome defaults, so what ...

I just removed the binary version, compiled the source code, removed all profiles and stuff, still no cigar.

If anyone IS able to open their links from thunderbird in firefox 3, can they tell me what exactly they did?

Yes, that is the problem.

I have www-client/mozilla-firefox-bin-3.0and mail-client/mozilla-thunderbird-2.0.0.16 installed and they don't work together apparently. mailto links in Firefox do open in Thunderbird, but URL's clicked in Thunderbird do not open in Firefox...

And how do you do that?

I've been having this problem since I installed Firefox3-bin, and nothing has worked. I added the protocol-handler stuff to prefs.js, I ran 'firefox -setDefaultBrowser', but nothing works.

I also get three processes after clicking a link in thunderbird:

I just resynced and now it is unmasked again. Probably a mistake somewhere but it would not have been a funny one if I had let portage downgrade the package since then my system would have been broken again.

Uvesafb & bootsplash

I have been using bootsplash/gensplash for numerous generations of kernels. Now something has changed once again, apparently gensplash has been replaced by uvesafb somehow. The splash option is not available in the kernel config anymore.

Troubles with Dovecot IMAP

I have got some troubles with Dovecot IMAP server. I'm running Gentoo Linux on a server with fetchmail to fetch all my mail from POP3 servers and put it in my IMAP mailbox on my own server.

This has always worked quite nicely, and in fact, it still does. For new mail.

Each january 1st I create a ...

That doesn't really matter does it? As I said, it's not the main HDD, so the system is not dependent on it for normal functioning. If I put in a bad floppy in my floppy-drive then the system should not lock either, right?
I know what the problem was with the HDD, the HDD mentioned is an external HDD ...

System completely locked by HD?

Just before 12 PM I went away, while my Gentoo box was doing an emerge -uD world. When I came back I found it locked tight. Couldn't use sysrq, couldn't SSH in from another box, completely dead.

In /var/log/everything/current I found this:

Jul 4 11:50:00 [fcron] process already running: root's ...

Now I came a step further. It really isn't KDE or KWin's fault. It's Aquamarine's fault! I just discovered then when I use beryi + aquamarine the special characters do not show up properly, and when I use KWin they do. So I'm going over to beryl to complain there ;)
