Does anyone know how to run systemd with plymouth?
I want to install systemd to my girlfriends laptop, but you know: Female computers NEED a fancy boot experience ;)

What I did so far:
plymouth with openrc is running fine! (just a 2 sec prompt before X is there, but that's ok)
I've tried the same ...

Misread you post :D

I think it IS STILL broken!
At least it doesn't work for me if I comment out those 3 lines!

But what about AVX and 3Dnow ?
It's not supported by my CPU, but it's activated?

It seems like ALL auto detection is broken...

Okay. I think I know what's the problem:
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344915

Autodetection of SSE 4.x is broken and though SSE 4.x is completely disabled!

I found a solution for me to enable at least SSE 4.1 :)

nano /usr/portage/eclass/qt4-build.eclass

and somewhere I changed a line ...

Hey guys!

Maybe you have the answer:
Do I only habe to enable "raster" USE-Flag or do I have to start every application with "-graphicssystem raster" ?

I know that it MAY corrupt apps, but maybe I'm not using those apps ;) Just for testing and performance.

Thanks

QT 4.7.2, why no SSE 4.1/4.2?

Hi!

I'm on a Core2Duo system here which supports SSE 4.1. But today I recognized while QT 4.7.2 update, that I doesn't use SSE 4.1.

Questions:
Why?
How can I enable it?

While configuration it says:

>>> Configuring source in /var/tmp/portage/x11-libs/qt-opengl-4.7.2/work/qt-everywhere ...

Hey guys!

I've got new things to do with systemd: splashscreen!

There are several questions:
1. Which system should one prefer for splashscreen experience (last time I set it up war 3-4 years ago) ?
2. Is there a built-in system in systemd or sth. planned?

Thanks

Hi!

Today I visited zen-kernel.org and recognized the statement @ frontpage.

Now... can somebody explain what exactly that means? (My English doesn't seem good enough to get it... :( )

I don't know what Zen tag is ?!

Is it now "better" to use zen-sources-9999 , because there won't be much ...

Can anyone tell me what's up with qt (especially qt-gui and qt-svg) and the accessibility USE-flag?
A few days ago portage said that there was a dependency error... after trying this and that I found out that I had to set "x11-libs/qt-svg accessibility" in package.use ... But WHY ?
I always thought ...

systemd is making progress :)
seem's like they tagged v17!

I wonder if systemd will still get faster or (from now on) it still gets fatter and slower?
Or (the question other way round): Are there still features missing that could/will speed up the boot process?

Does this have to do anything with systemd ?

Thanks for SMB service =)

I have now 2 other issues!

First: cups. In all systemd reviews etc. there's ALWAYS an example with cups. But I can't find any cups.service :( Is it somewhere hidden or is it simply non-existant ?

Second: Something like /etc/init.d/local (or /etc/init.d/local.start) is ...

ONLY ping possible! (IPv6 related)

Hi!

When I came home one hour ago, I had a really strange problem (not had, it's still there!):
knetworkmanager connected wlan0 to my router, as always!
Next I started firefox (using version 4 beta). Typed an URL, pressed enter and then: "Firefox can't find the server at www.google.com."
Tried ...

That's strange. My systemd boots up to kdm within 15sec incl. avahi and NetworkManager...
With openrc it always took at least 25-30 secs
For a successful boot you need automounter v4 (which is in real v5) and automounted /dev in kernel (as gentoo-wiki hopefully told you ;) )

Is anyone else using NetworkManager and experiencing a crash at shutdown with systemd?
Everytime I shutdown (not reboot!!!) NetworkManager encounters a serious problem and it take at least 1 minute till power off!
Reboot works well (1-2 seconds until I see my BIOS-screen)

I'm using systemd-9999 from systemd overlay and:

No problems no dependency conflicts or whatever. Runs pretty well.

Hmmm...

I have actually no problems with systemd (except sometimes panics with IRQ 19 and NetworkManager), but that's not much of interest to me ;)
During the last weeks I reinstalled systemd several times. I don't use any sort of encryption or RAID or sth. So it's a fairly normal system.

I did ...

I'm using NetworkManager. This seems to take most start-up time. Annoying .... but: it has at least 50 lines output that are "<info>". Not too interesting. How can I disable this (for me) useless output?
