uninstall beryl and do: emerge compiz-fusion

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_compiz-fusion

beryl & compiz merged into one project and I must say it look pretty good, especially the reflections and expo plug-in ;]

the problem is that the 0.5 configuration dialog doesn't work well over the git ebuild, so we just have to wait till they fix it or just mask the 9999 ebuilds and compile compiz-fusion-0.5.2 [doing so right now] ;]

just emerge compiz-bcop from xeffects first ;]

EDIT:
I didn't noticed the "bcop --version" line, have you kept the order from gentoo-wiki.com?

emerge -v1a compiz compiz-bcop emerald libcompizconfig compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported compiz ...

[from http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_compiz-fusion]

yep, a workaround for now:

cocoliso wrote:mask for now these packages in package.mask

Code: Select all
x11-wm/compiz-9999
dev-python/compizconfig-python-9999

this will block portage from upgrading those packages and you will be able to use fusion-icon with compiz-0.5.2

Like prestige said, ~amd64 is the way to go [only switching from firefox to firefox-bin can be annoying sometimes :P]

not so long ago the problem was also the fact that vesafb-tng didn't work with amd64, so you were stuck with vesafb for the console, but:

projects::uvesafb

uvesafb is the ...

The easiest way to go with kde is to do

Code: Select all

emerge kdebase-meta kdm
then edit your /etc/conf.d/xdm to read:

DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm"

Code: Select all

nano /etc/conf.d/xdm
;D

then only do:

Code: Select all

rc-update add xdm default
and restart your box ;]

From gentoo-wiki:

Note: Currently compiz-fusion must be compiled in a certain order or else certain packages won't compile or break. Here is a suggested order:

emerge -v1a compiz compiz-bcop emerald libcompizconfig compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-fusion-plugins ...

Fusion-icon compizconfig.so: undefined symbol error

I've recently compiled compiz-fusion with the instructions from gentoo-wiki and I get this error:

* Using the Qt3 Interface
* /usr/lib64/python2.4/site-packages/compizconfig.so: undefined symbol: ccsEdgesToStringList
... Trying another interface

fusion-icon is compiled with qt3 support

I get ...
