Motherboards are designed ground-up starting with power regulation, then CPU and memory, then peripheral devices.

(Note that the core design, like the CPU and memory, was likely done by the CPU vendor and just integrated into the OEM's design.)

What do you know is good? Are you sure your power ...

You have the right drivers: [94209.544389] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device <unnamed> (046d:0992)

It should work exactly the same in the built-in USB2 or USB3 ports. (The driver doesn't care what USB port it appears on.) The good news is, it works great on the PCIe USB ports which shows that the ...

Can you post the exact model of Logitech camera?

It still seems like there is some defective hardware. I don't know why or when the defect appeared, but a webcam shouldn't be claiming all the bandwidth of USB 2.0 much less USB 3.0.

Can you try the webcam on a different Linux box?

I have a uvc webcam. It seems yours is defective, especially as looks like it doesn't even handle the first steps of USB enumeration.

Do you have a link to someone reporting that your model of webcam works on linux?

[SOLVED] Disappearing kernel symbols gentoo-sources-3.8.4

I just picked up a cheap Logitech C270 webcam but can't get v4l2 to compile. I'm using the in-kernel webcam drivers.

hostname linux-3.8.4-gentoo # modprobe uvcvideo
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'uvcvideo': Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

One data point: I've been happily using: One Sapphire Radeon 7970 (can only drive up to 3 monitors)
One DVI monitor
One HDMI monitor
One DP-to-mini-DP adapter, then mini-DP to VGA adapter (which I occasionally borrow for my macbook pro when doing presentations), connected to a third monitor

@dake

The kind of detailed, in depth testing that Navar provides for his UD5H is way beyond what you would likely find for any other motherboard.

Doesn't mean you have to buy that one, but if it's at all interesting you'll have the best luck by using the info Navar is providing.

Navar mentions ...

I think Navar's answer is the best you can get.

You probably want a motherboard with a Z77 chipset, like Navar says.

Hopefully his Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H also works for you. Then Navar can share any specific config needed to get everything to work.

If his motherboard isn't the one you want, please ...

I've had good luck with Asus motherboards for desktops. It sounds like you're building a desktop.

But to be perfectly honest, Asus does not support Linux so unless you want to choose a specific board and spend some time googling, you may end up with some problems. I'm guessing you want something ...

I'll check them out. I'm a little nervous buying that size monitor with that high resolution for that small an amount, don't see how they can do a good job of it.

But at least that would get me back to cards known to work on Linux. And maybe my existing card.

Thanks. Do some online research ...

Have you looked at the korean catleap 27" 2560x1440 monitors?

If you pay a little more than the lowest, lowest prices (ebay usually has them for $390) you get more reliable service and the monitor will have DVI + VGA + displayport.

Obviously only DVI or displayport is needed to get a 3-way setup ...

Got bitten bad by this today on a production machine with 5 NICs. It took way too much downtime to figure out that the root cause was something done 2 reboots ago - the natural first place to look was the last reboot (when udev was upgraded we always check device mappings but this time device ...

I'll quote from your post the part I disagree with most: just buy a certificate, which you can use to sign your own kernel with I disagree for technical and philosophical reasons:

Don't count on it. Boards that come with Trusted Computing Module enabled cannot be used to boot anything but OEM OS. It is integral part of motherboard and cannot be removed. I'm hopeful that devices like the Wii, PS3, and XBox show the possibilities of replacing the TC/TPM BIOS.
