Why do you need the newest and the most actual versions of your programs, please?

I am really curious, this is not a trolling question.

Because i know the "other side" where people use 15 year old ...

With paludis as far as DR goes ist following wrong:
It is developed by an ex-deveoper and hosted on a non-Gentoo infrastructure
BUT
it is (or will be) a central package in Gentoo (as it is a package manager)
AND
the copyright was not transferred to the Gentoo foundation as Daniel says it should
be ...

(Why would one update a stable machine - especially a million dollar machine - without knowing exactly what the outcome will be?

If there is a must for updating - for example a security reason - then in Gentoo you have to update to a new version ...

It is not the thing to read books and/or learn. It is not the thing that Gentoo is hard to setup or run.

The biggest hurdle about Gentoo is to make real stable: Just as you wrote stable as Slackware.

This is simply not true!

You have to update, just because of security reasons. (And with update here I mean to get the new portage tree.)
And with every new portage tree I get new ...

Weil Gentoo dynamisch ist, werde ich in meinen Plänen Gentoo als Basis für
"Entwickler-Desktops" vorsehen. Die stabilen Pakete sind ausreichend getestet
auf ihre "Funktionsfähigkeit" und Entwicklern macht es am wenigsten Kopfschmerzen,

Die Ausgabe solltest du hier dann mal posten.

bzw. ich evaluiere verschiedene Distributionen(einschl. *BSD) dahingehend, welche
