Although dev-db/mariadb is still pulled by net-analyzer/zabbix with "proxy" enabled, the compile time is shortened by about 75% with the following entries in package.use:
dev-db/mariadb -backup -pam -perl -server
net-analyzer/zabbix agent proxy mysql -agent2 -postgres ...

[solved]How to install Zabbix Proxy without a full DB setup?

Hi everyone,

how can I avoid installing a full blown database server package as a dependecy of Zabbix Proxy?

I am running a Zabbix Proxy and a dedicated database server on different hosts. Zabbix Proxy needs a database - either locally or remote. It supports SQLite, MySQL and Postgres:

Kind regards

[solved] Building tvheadend fails with ffmpeg-7.1.1

Good day,

with the most current version of ffmpeg, building tvheadend leads to an error. Am I overlooking something or have I run into a bug?

With media-video/ ffmpeg-6.1.2-r1 building media-tv/tvheadend-4.3_p20240618 works fine .

it's been one and a half months since my last update here. All of my systems are running a 6.12.* kernel, and the initial problem did not occure one single time.
Thus, I have marked this thread as "solved". If someone should be interested in further analysis or troubleshooting, please let ...

I could run a few tests with bonnie++ while taking care for more constant basic conditions.
But at the moment I quite convinced, that changing kernel versions led to different performance results.

<3, as far as I remember Yakuake has to be started in the background when you log in. When it is active, you then can use it by pressing F12 - which seems to work.

I assume the following:
- Yakuake is not started automatically when you log in
- you have to start Yakuake "by hand" once
- afterwards ...

[solved] Massive slowdowns when handling many small files

Dear all,

when handling many small files with gentoo-sources-6.1.*, everything works fine.
With gentoo-sources-6.6.*, the transfer gets slower after a while. A reboot helps for a few moments, until the performance problem occurs again. I have to add, that a normal reboot does not work then, since ...

HDMI hotplug does not work - how to troubleshoot?

Hello everyone,

I have a bunch of headless systems running Gentoo. They all use newer kernels (5.15.16, 5.15.23) and come without X or any other kind of graphical output - only CLI.
While connecting them at runtime to an external HDMI screen, I noticed, that

Using a separate file for my initrams (see https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Custom_Initramfs#Creating_a_separate_file), it works now.
Nevertheless I am wondering, why embedding directly into the kernel does not work, since this has always been my "worry-free" way to handle initramfs.

Yep, /boot/ only contains the System*-. config*- and vmlinuz-files - and of course the grub-related stuff.
May I ask why are you embedding the initramfs in the kernel, if you are ...

I edit all the content of the initramfs by editing the files in /usr/src/initramfs/. So, for instance, the init script which gets actually loaded by the kernel at boot time is a different one than under /usr/src/initramfs/

How to force initramfs update?

Hey there,

I am experiencing the problem with integrating an initramfs into the kernel.

I am using kernel 5.8.18:
