How to setup boot/sysinit/default/single runlevels

Hey there, folks. It's been a long time since I last took a peak at my runlevels setup and it's still pretty confusing.
Currently my 'rc-status -a' returns:

Runlevel: boot
dmesg [ started ]
modules [ started ]
fsck [ started ]
root [ started ]
mtab [ started ]
localmount [ started ...

I'm still facing this oddity too. It seems it takes a few more hours to get buggy, but it does at some point. Another thing I've noticed is that ping works, but http related stuff won't. My download and upload rates reach a bare minimum and loading pages just timesout or gets corrupted. Only ...

It seems updating to gentoo-sources-2.6.36-r5 worked like a charm! Well, almost, the crashs are gone, i failed to reproduce them a bunch of times, but i have noticed a decrease in FPS while playing anything opengl. Playing regular non-HD videos is fine though, so i'm pretty much okay too for now ...

A little update.
Thanks for the "eselect mesa list" tip. It seems I really have a gallium driver enabled in mesa-7.9, i've tried every possible combination both for hardware i915/i965 (with GLX and AIGLX) and sw accelaration, but I still get hardlocks, exactly the same as before. Gallium for sw ...

Sorry about that, mate.
I got those same messages you've posted, but i still get 2D and 3D acceleration, which means i still get crashes. I had to work that around and disable everything DRI related, finally no crashes (at least for now), but no 3D/2D accel whatsoever.

I've already emerged the ...

toralf, that ServerLayout thing won't work here. Xorg will still load AIGLX and GLX eventhough it states that AIGLX is disable a few seconds before. It's that autoconfigure feature, mostly annoying.

Compiling my kernel without uvesafb and enabling KMS in the kernel boot line got rid of most video ...

Solved!

After weeks of hacking around in desperation I guess i solved it. I did set my router to assign static IP binded to my laptop wifi MAC address a few months ago. For some reason the router only allows such an action providing hosts with a permanent lease time. I believe my dhcp client did not agree ...

No tunneling, no proxy, just good ol' generic-brand router that used to work quite okay until a couple of weeks ago. I just found out that tinyurl.com is also broken.

I'll take my netbook to some other neighborhood and try to connect to these faulty addresses and report back. Indeed it's odd, i ...

After a few hours I can't browse google sites

Hey there, folks.
The most frustrating thing is happening here at home. After the last update, both my x86 and amd64 pcs are running into the same problem. After a couple of hours of browsing, sometimes a bit more, any google page and only google pages aren't reachable. Firefox, elinks, wget ...

0.9.6 is out!

Hey guys, it seems greg has finally released some new code!

010-05-23 Version 0.9.6
Hi, I'm still alive!
Version 0.9.6 contains various bugfixes plus support for newer DBus APIs and Linux kernels. The deb package is designed for Ubuntu Lucid. A few rough edges remain, but everything works fine for ...

Yup, genstorm, i see you. Thanks for the tip, albright. :)
I've downgraded to 1.7.7 and it seems to work fine. I can't afford to rely on unstable 1.8.x, but i must say that the new non-fdi-hal-hell setup is much more simple and makes much more sense. I had already migrated to new xorg.conf.d style ...

Hey guys, it's worse than I thought. I used lxrandr to quickly change xorg screen resolution and do video out for presentations and such. Guess what, it results in hardlocks. This is a real problem since I use this eeepc for presentations at work.

I've done a minor test here. I have conky running on the background checking the battery estimated life using sbs* modules and such. When switching between powersave, normal and high profiles the battery life increases up to 62 minutes. The cpu frequency was kept at 0.8 Ghz by conservative cpufreq ...

I'm no hardware expert, but it seems that when you reduce the FSB you supposed to decrease power consumption. Even if the final frequency is the same, the reduced FSB speed reduces also the core voltage of the CPU and other parts of the mainboard, such as the NorthBridge voltage, less voltage means ...

I agree and that bugs me a little, if that issues wasnt listed at eee-control website i'd say it's not working. However, you can reduce fsb and raise the multiplier, thus keeping the same cpu frequency. I don't know if that's the case, but i could be.

Later.

only direct-io works for FSB tweaking, 3 setups are available high/normal/powersave.

does it really work for you ? Yes, the variables are displayed, but they do no alter the cpu clock freq., at least for me.
SHE is supposed to work out of the box with kernel >=2.6.30 but it doesn´t here, i tried ...

Again i was missing stuff. I messed around with cpufreqd and other apps but none of them really impressed me. Besides that, xorg would not see some of the extra hotkeys that the eeepc has. So i tried eee-control one last time and to my surprise it works!
I was prolly missing acpi-freqd and fan ...

I was missing the dmi option in my kernel setup. Got it and now it runs.
However the initscript spits out [!!] and stops.
I can see the tray, but there are no performance options, just "none". Running eee-control-daemon -V shows me a lot of stuff, seems like the daemon runs, however only direct-io ...

It seems there is a 0.9.4 version out already. Also, the -9999 ebuild pulls in a huge amount of gnome deps, while 0.9.3 ebuild pulls just a few deps, no gnome stuff. I think the git ebuild doesnt recognize my USE="-gnome" setup.

Anyways, 0.9.3 emerged and when i do /etc/init.d/eee-control start it ...

Hey guys, i'm working on getting i8kmon to work properly on my Dell Latitude D510. I was wondering which conf should i set, because /etc/conf.d/i8k has too few options and /etc/i8kmon is just great. So starting the service on /etc/init.d will read conf.d file for sure and start i8kmon as a daemon ...

Found a solution! Partial at least.

I was hacking around the startxfce4 script, and i've found this $SERVERRC variable... hum...
So i tried the following from the console:
SERVERRC="-layout lfp-tv $SERVERRC" startxfce4

And guess what? It works! :D Xorg sees my other layout and loads it accordingly ...
