I am sorry that noone answered. Maybe I asked the question in a wrong way. I noticed also that if I close and restart evolution after some time antilaiasing is present. I think that the problem is that the gconf daemon must be started before the evolution is started. Otherwise, like it happens in my ...

Hi all! I've been happily using xgl for some weeks now. I just noticed one problem (or feature, maybe I don't understand it). Sometimes when I click on a window, the focus is passed to a window beneath it, and not to the window itself. Is this intentional or a bug? Is there a way to tweak this ...

Hello everybody! I managed to get xgl running thanks to the gentoo wiki howto (amazing), and I only have a few questions about usage. Please bear with me. Thank you. My questions are:

1) Is there a way to change desktops only with the keyboard bindings and disable the mouse gestures completely? As ...

evolution comes up without antialiasing from time to time

Hi all! I have the following problem, maybe someone can help me. I have kde installed, but for email I use evolution. Because of this I installed gconf, gconf-editor, etc. (I also use xgl and compiz, so I have to usee gconf for configuration). This is the problem: even if in the gconf-editor panel I ...

I solved the problem! :D

I actually discovered that X is killed at an advanced stage of the reboot/shutdown procedure. So, stopping gpm after X didn't work. I noticed that as soon as /sbin/reboot or /sbin/halt were executed, the screen would switch to the shutdown bootsplash and the mouse problem ...

Please ignore the PS end of my preceding email. I figured it out. It seems that on my system local is the last service to be started. I put the gpm stop there as you suggested, but it's already too late. I tried with the other trick you suggested, but with no effect. It seems that the correct moment ...

Why are you rebooting? That's not what linux is made for!

:P That is the funniest thing I have ever heard!

Thank you for your help! Actually my idea was exactly that, changing the order in the rc script. However, I don't know how to do it? Is there a direct way to do it? Or are the method you ...

kde has no sound even if arts is running fine [SOLVED]

Thank you for this last tip. This solved the problem. Actually I didn't exaclty need the KDE sound set. I just wanted to use the default sounds to see if everything was working correctly. So it seems it was a use flag problem. I have to say that I actualy had the ogg use flag in my make.conf:

euse ...

Hi all! I've made another discovery. Actually kde produces some sound when the sound files that I use are in wav format. The ones in ogg format do not work. So, the problem seems to be that the ogg vorbis plugin for arts is missing. Anyone knows which package should I install or how do I get ogg ...

I found the sound files. They are in /usr/kde/3.5/share/sounds, while the system looks for them in /usr/share/sounds. Is there any alternative to changing manually all the file paths in the control center? Also, do you think that this is a bug and should be filed as such? Thank you again for all ...

Dear all, I seem to have found where the problem lies. When I go to the kde notifications panel in control center and start to browse under the play a sound entry, I notice that there are no kde sound files at all. Only the k3b sound effects are there. So, it seems that I am missing a package. Does ...

Hello all! Here I am! I tried the above solution. First of all, I think you mean /etc/init.d/*gpm* and not *gdm*, right? However, it's still not turned off fast enough and the framebuffer splash gets overwritten, even if only for a few seconds! Thank you anyway!

mouse cursor(gpm) overwrites bootsplash image during[SOLVED]

Good day everyone!

I am trying to find a way to fix this problem. During the shutdown and reboot sequence, the console mouse (gpm) cursor writes over the console background bootsplash image, leaving a snale-like trail of black squares. Is there a way to avoid it? The most obvious seems to be to ...

kde has no sound even if arts is running fine [SOLVED]

Good day everyone!

I have a problem with the sound in my gentoo distribution.

I emerged kde and alsa using the alsa-driver method.
Later I emerged arts and did an emerge --newuse world which went fine.

Now arts works very fine with every application (amarok, skype for example).
But kde has no ...
