On a slightly related note, is there supposed to be a default menu file included with fluxbox? Because my menu file was empty, and thus when I run it I come up with "blackbox" instead of fluxbox. I also couldn't edit it myself until now because I couldn't see an example of the syntax.

Could someone post the default one since I apparently don't have it?

Code:

emerge commonbox-style commonbox-style-extras
cp /usr/share/commonbox/* ~/.fluxbox

should do the trick for ya :)

Code:

[begin] (Dev Kernel) {}
    [exec] (Eterm) {Eterm -O --shade 70 -x --buttonbar false --scrollbar false}
    [submenu] (File Managers) {}
        [exec] (Gentoo) {gentoo}
    [end]
    [submenu] (Games) {}
        [exec] (gxmame) {Eterm -O --shade 70 -x --buttonbar false --scrollbar false -e gxmame}
    [end]
    [submenu] (Graphics) {}
        [exec] (Gimp) {Eterm -O --shade 0 -x --buttonbar false --scrollbar false -e gimp-1.3}
    [end]
    [submenu] (Net) {}
        [exec] (Lopster) {lopster}
        [exec] (giFToxic) {giFToxic}
        [exec] (GAIM) {gaim}
        [exec] (IPTraf) {Eterm -O --shade 70 -x --buttonbar false --scrollbar false -e su -c iptraf}
        [exec] (Firebird) {mozilla}
    [end]
    [submenu] (OpenOffice 1.1) {}
        [exec] (Spreadsheets) {oocalc}
        [exec] (Presentations) {ooimpress}
        [exec] (Word Processor) {oowriter}
    [end]
    [submenu] (Settings) {}
        [workspaces] (Workspace List) {}
        [submenu] (Styles) {Choose a style...}
            [stylesdir] (/usr/share/commonbox/styles) {}
        [end]
        [include] (/usr/share/commonbox/imagebgmenu) {}
        [include] (/usr/share/commonbox/solidbgmenu) {}
        [config] (Configure) {}
        [reconfig] (Reload config) {}
    [end]
    [restart] (Restart) {}
    [exit] (Exit) {}
[end]

Now with added Gentoo... thanks neenee!

Some commands have Eterm running them because they either need it (gxmame) or so I can see the output (IPTraf). Nothing fancy but it suits my needs to a tee.

Ox: Just a tip.

Quote:
Eterm -g 120x35+8+48 -f white -F '-*-lucidatypewriter-medium-r-normal-sans-10-*-*-*-*-*-*-*' -O --tint=#ffffff --shade 0 --borderless --scrollbar-popup --scrollbar-floating --scrollbar no --double-buffer -a "toggles buttonbar false" -e less -BRS +G /var/log/apache2/access_log

change:

Code:
less -BRS +G

for

Code:
tail -f

This way u get a scrolling log :-)

Err, well if I just wanted to do tail -f I would simplify the whole thing and use something like root-tail :)

I was fiddling with the less stuff to try and get it to scroll like tail, but I guess that won't be possible.

Oh, I had 2 reasons for experimenting with less: 1) so that I would have 2-way scrolling of the log and 2) so I could put some regex filters in the pipeline to do things like coloring matched regex patterns on log lines.

lol.. i started adding some of this stuff to my config but I must have missed a line or something so half my config disappeared.. including the "reload config" option.. what is the command to reload the flux config from Eterm?

Here is mine

Code:

[begin] (Blazen)
        [include] (~/.fluxbox/imagebgmenu)

[submenu] (Programs)
        [exec] (xmms) {xmms}
        [exec] (gimp) {gimp}
[end]
[submenu] (Startup)
        [exec] (aterm) {aterm -ls -fg yellow -sh 50% -tr +sb -sl 5000 -fn comic}
        [exec] (phoenix) {phoenix}
        [exec] (gkrellm) {gkrellm2 -w}
        [exec] (mythfrontend) {mythfrontend}
[end]

        [exec] (------------------) {ss}

[submenu] (edit)
        [exec] (menu) {xterm -fg yellow -bg black -title menu -e vi ~/.fluxbox/menu}
        [exec] (backgrounds ) {xterm -fg yellow -bg black -title menu -e vi
~/.fluxbox/imagebgmenu}
[end]

[submenu] (Settings)
        [workspaces]   (Workspace List)
[submenu] (Styles) {Choose a style...}
        [stylesdir] (/usr/share/commonbox/styles)
[end]

        [config] (Configure)
        [reconfig] (Reload config)
[end]

        [exec] (------------------) {gmplayer /downloads/mov/m11.MPG}
        [restart] (Restart)
        [exit] (Exit)
[end]

And here is the imagebgmenu (created with bg_menu.scr)

Code:

[submenu] (backgrounds) {choose image...}
[exec] (SS Bckgnd) {/downloads/scripts/ss_bkgnd}
[exec] (RND Bckgnd) {/downloads/scripts/rnd_bkgnd /downloads/backgrounds}
[exec] (Kill SSB)  {killall ss_bkgnd}
[exec] (Update list) {/downloads/backgrounds/bg_menu.scr}
[submenu] (Singles)
   [exec] (1.jpg) {feh --bg-scale /downloads/backgrounds/1.jpg}
   [exec] (IRIA.jpg) {feh --bg-scale /downloads/backgrounds/IRIA.jpg}

...<snip>... lots o exec lines.....

   [exec] (twofor1.jpg) {feh --bg-scale /downloads/backgrounds/twofor1.jpg}
   [exec] (whereBear.jpg) {feh --bg-scale /downloads/backgrounds/whereBear.jpg}
   [exec] (woman.bmp) {feh --bg-scale /downloads/backgrounds/woman.bmp}
[end]
[end]

bg_menu.scr (create background menu from image directory)

Code:

bckgrds=/downloads/backgrounds
list=`ls $bckgrds`
imgfile=~/.fluxbox/imagebgmenu

echo "[submenu] (backgrounds) {choose image...}" > $imgfile
echo "[exec] (SS Bckgnd) {/downloads/scripts/ss_bkgnd}" >> $imgfile
echo "[exec] (RND Bckgnd) {/downloads/scripts/rnd_bkgnd $bckgrds}" >> $imgfile
echo "[exec] (Kill SSB)  {killall ss_bkgnd}" >> $imgfile
echo "[exec] (Update list) {/downloads/scripts/bg_menu.scr)}" >> $imgfile
echo "[submenu] (Singles)" >> $imgfile
for file in $list
do
        echo "   [exec] ($file) {feh --bg-scale $bckgrds/$file}" >> $imgfile
done
echo [end] >> $imgfile
echo [end] >> $imgfile

Pretty simple. The dashed lines I use as seperators in my menu, that give me quick/hidden access to a slide show (ss) or a mov. The imagebgmenu is how how I get access to background images (random background, slideshow background, or pick single from a list)
