/me is quite unconcerned *

(in other news, I *did* just start an emerge -e world, but that was for other reasons. 620 packages. Let's see how far I'll get...)

Heh, and guess who has just downloaded and burned rc4 because the old one disappeared... Oh well, probably doesn't make a huge difference...

Gentoo will probably get some attention for this, though, so that's great! :)

I guarantee you no difference if its stage 1. ;)

edit: Is there cd 2 with the grp packages on any of the mirrors yet?. I'm about to install it on another computer and i don't want it to take forever to install gnome, mozilla, and evolution. This is for athlon-xp since i've noticed that other arch have cd2.

Heh... the reason why I'm recompiling the world is that I want to do some clean-ups (read: removing packages. 620 is a lot, especially for compilation in one go). Since I've hacked and sliced my Portage tree, Portage configuration and, well, everything quite brutally for a long time, I decided that it would be a good idea to get my Portage tree, make.conf, installed ebuilds and actual installed packages in a somewhat consistent state to make dependency discovery and everything work properly before removing packages.

My download speeds from trumpetti.atm.tut.fi top at around 105 kilobytes/second on shared ADSL (whose only user worth mentioning I seem to be).

GRP CD2 for Athlon XP is not available currently. Frankly, we've had all sorts of problems with the Athlon XP build.

Athlon XP users can safely use the i686 set.

Care to elaborate on that - now you have me worried a tad.

Ya, i've been having problems recently with gnome/evolution and occasionally mozilla on my main and have been a little frustrated because not everything has been working too well. I was also hoping to wipe my gnome install and replace it with the grp.

We'll i'll burn the pentium 3 one for the moment. Can't seem to find one of those. all mirrors are busy. I guess i can wait. i got exams to study for. hehe.

First thing was that the build box we were using originally started having problems (GCC segfaults with QT). Then there were problems with building openldap. Then there were Java-related problems...

Things seem to be going smoothly now, though, so we should have a CD2 up soon.

Am I the only one that pronounces GRP like "gerp"? (that's a hard G as in "gate"). Do you guys just say the letters?

I find it kind of funny that I pronounce GRP like "gerp", but GNU is "gee-en-you" when I say it.

CD1 is enough to get you a working system with X.

CD2 contains other apps, like KDE/GNOME, OpenOffice, stuff like that.

You could use the Athlon XP CD1 and the i686 CD2.

Hmmm... can't find any Stage 3 / GRP for Pentium 4 stuff on the mirrors... is this expected "soon" or should I just use i686?

Thanks,
emgarf

EDIT: Never mind, found them on the Oregon State servers.

Some mirrors are lagging behind - since the master mirror is getting hit hard, a lot of European mirrors especially are getting files extremely slowly.

Frankly, we need a better mirror system (with more master mirrors), but that's something I can bug our infrastructure people about.

Any thoughts on what those of us who purchased the Athlon XP set will receive? Are those shipments going to be delayed because of the build problems?

Nope, not at all. It's just not release-ready yet.

I hate to cross-post, but here goes:

Is distcc support available for the bootstrap process? I know it wasn't "officially" supported before, and that a few people had hacked together a working model... but I need real documentation rather than "It works for me(TM)" stuff.
