Hi Lovechild.
Post moved at your request.
My contribution to the Gentoo community, both on and off the forums, has really paid off. And now that I'm a moderator, you really will have to be on your best behaviour won't you?

im not sure how i feel about this. i think its funny that other members of the community (lovechild, port001, etc) who have been here for a long time and make significant and major contributions to the gentoo community are overlooked as moderators, yet the new girl with a cute avatar gets modded with 90 posts...
i dont mean to start a flamewar, and by no means do i claim to know the circumstances behind the decision, something just seems a little screwy to me... |

We needed more style in the Moderators group...
More seriously, first of all Brandy showed her competence in the various replies, then, to guarantee that an eye is always (more or less) on the forums Moderators from differet timezones are needed, and Brandy is from New Zeland. _________________ I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Surely its not to do with timezones but more to do with when people read posts? ie do they read them at work or late at night etc... (though NZers would have more time on their hands - when they're not cow tipping on One Tree Hill or chucking soap in the fountains on the waterfront ).
I think jimlynch11 has a very valid point. |

I'm not going to deny the fact I wouldn't mind being a moderator, but the admins obviously chose the best person for the job. Brandy is very certious in her posts and is factualy correct.
Well done Brandy! _________________ a.k.a port001

I can't say I understand the logic here either. Well I have a guess but I won't say it.
I'll bet there are other NZ folks who have been here a while, no?
No offense to Brandy, just seems a little suspicious. I guess people whined that there aren't enough Linux chicks and this is the response, heh. _________________ Meh. |

| I'm not saying Brandy isn't qualified, but just to interject the sexist portion of this debate: most people browsing these forums will more often oblige and cooperate with a cute girl than with some old, nerdy guy. Not that Gentoo forums really have any problems that can't be solved by the latter, but still. |

Maybe its because she "found a need, and filled it" so to speak, for the community. We all give back to the community in our own ways. Nothing unusual about that. _________________ The Congress shall have power...To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries; --U.S. Constitution. Oh c'mon ppl... First we make a whole bunch of posts asking desperately if there is any, any at all, female gentoo user (excluding my gf, you h*rny nerdy b*stards! ) and now that we have a cute female mod (should we trust the avatar of course...) you get all upset that you - or someone you are fond of - should be at her place.
In any case, although with few posts, she has proven not only to be competent but also very friendly and calm in the manners. Difficult to believe? Perhaps, but honestly, I don't care since the end result is that counts.
Congrats Brandy!

Well, I won't bitch. She could've had 500 posts by now but she decides to post only when necessary.
Good luck, Brandy! Don't be overly naughty! |

That's why I carry a large lead pipe.... And to know why some people with more posts haven't been invited to be moderators, you just have to sit down and see how some people react when they discover that there is a girl reading the thread.
But now talking seriously, people: just get a clue. Let's behave ourselves and let Brandy do her work.

I was thinking how funny it is that some people get jealous of the attention she got by being a moderator. I can't help but wonder what the reaction of the same people whould have been if instead she showed up in a bikini on a gentoo box or in a gentoo ad.
Overall I say its a good thing! She will be a good role model for future female gentoos and she's always politicaly correct in her post. Something I'm not and will never be |
