I have a Dell Latitude (cp m233st) with a 3com pcmcia card (3ccfe575bt).

It is currently running win2k, and I am trying to install 1.4.rc4 on it.

So after doing some surfing in win2k, I reboot an try to do the install.

When I started the install, I used these options:

Code:
boot: 800 dopcmcia

I got some messages that indicated that the card was detected:

Code:
* Starting pcmcia...
  cardmgr[4069]: watching 2 sockets
   * Mouse is Generic Mouse (PS/2) at /dev/psaux...
   * Starting USB and PCI hotplugging...
  pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci/05/00.0
  pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci/05/00.0
  pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci/05/00.0
  pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci/05/00.0
  pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci/05/00.0
  pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci/05/00.0
  pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci/05/00.0
  pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci/05/00.0
   * Network device  eth0
    eth1 detected, DHCP broadcasting for IP....

I run "net-setup eth0" and choose dhcp, but no luck. "ifconfig" returns this:

Code:
lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

The "pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci/05/00.0" business looked odd, so I tried:

Code:
boot: 800 dopcmcia nousb

...and get the same messages and same ifconfig output. Hmm...

Next I tried this:

Code:
boot: 800 dopcmcia nousb nodhcp nohotplug noraid

Now, I see these messages:

Code:
* Starting pcmcia...
  cardmgr[4069]: watching 2 sockets
   * Skipping DHCP broadcast detection as requested on boot commandline....
   * Mouse is Generic Mouse (PS/2) at /dev/psaux...
   * Hotplug disabled via commandline...
   * Network device eth0 detected, DHCP broadcasting for IP....

So, this looks closer. The pcilib messages are gone, but after net-setup and ifconfig, I still have no net.

I tried this, too:

Code:
boot: 800 dopcmcia nousb nohotplug noraid

Same results.

Reboot to win2k, all is working. :evil:

I really want to run linux on this. Any ideas?

I have had problems installing from rc4 on my Dell laptop as well, however rc3 works just fine for me.
